    ESET 4 Free Upgrades

    Hi All,

I know many of you like ESET's products. Just to let you know I've had an email from ESET to let me know all existing Nod32 and Smartsecurity users are entitled to free upgrades to the latest version 4 of their products.

V4 has a lot of fancy new features and improvements - those IMO worth noting are increased speed (which was already pretty damn good), better archive scanning, Removable media control, rescue, powersaving, nicer GUI and overall better protection.

You should be able to use your existing license information at the url below to upgrade.

    Thanks for pointing this out.

One of the office computers came with a free 1-year ESET license, I'll see if I can upgrade. I tried the trial and didn't like it - you can no longer right-click the tray icon and click 'Exit'. Eset in particular has always had issues with firefox when downloading in that it locks up at 'seconds to go' and the download never completes. The fix was to Exit ESET momentarily and then re-open it once the download was complete. Unfortunately with V4 you can no longer do that.

So it looks like we'll be moving all the systems to Kaspersky.

    Epic fail on Eset's part.

      Hi Grant,

I gave it a good go but I couldn't replicate your problem. You can certainly disable the protection frmo the taskbar in eset 4, but as with V3, there is no option to 'exit' the product. I'd give the final version of V4 a go and see if you still have the same problem.

All in all, it seems like a very nice product...

        Hi Matt,

        Is NOD32 any good?
If you know, where would you say it fails compared to Kaspersky or Sophos?
(Just had delivery on a nice shiny new laptop you see, and want to see if it is worth changing from Sophos)

          Hi Paul

I'll start by saying my company is an ESET reseller.

The stats we get sent indicate it's better than Kapersky in many ways. I've attached the March stats to this post.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/ Is generally a good place to go for impartial results. You'll see ESET scores highest most of the time.

V4 is a very nice product and I'm using it on my machines for business and home. It doesn't seem to slow the machines down like other AV products do - its very lightweight. ESET was one of the first partner companies I got set up with primarily because I liked the product.

Yea, just had a quick look at your site, and saw you were a reseller
And thanks for the March stats - was going to ask you for that, so you must a mind reader lol

I am leaning towards NOD32 because it looks like they have a x64 build where the others use x86 builds on the WOW platform.

THe PDF data is from July 08 which is the most recent I have, I haven't been sent the data for V4 yet.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/seite...se_2008_11.php shows a good comparison from Nov 08

take a look at http://www.eset.com/products/compare...ompetition.php for long term achievements. and if you look under the "why eset?" menu top right there are more stats there

EDIT: That first link won't work - but if you go to the av-comparatives.org site and click comparatives then scroll down you'll see it.

                  Thanks for your help matt,
It's making interesting reading, and ESET looks to be very promising (Never hear of them until i saw a post in the "Whats the first five things you download onto a new pc?" thead)
