    Tabbed Browsing

apparantly Mozilla consider tabbed browsing to be out dated now so they've launched a design competition to come up with an alternative.

One reason for changing from tabs is some people have 100's of tabs open and thne cant find the tab they want and 100's of tabs close the machine down! DOH!!

How many tabs do peeps here have open on average?

i seem to get to about 12 before i start closing

I have 4 open now, but had up to 8 or 10 earlier. Then I might have 2/3 other browsers open too to check layouts...

I've got 10 open now but normally only have about 4 open. What I do like however is being able to group my bookmarks and then open them all at once in their own tab.

It's true that once you have to scroll across open tabs it's hard to find the one you want.

        bloody loads, they are right.

their idea was to group the tabs, by function.

i happen to agree. what we need is a hybrid favourite and tab system. a website still exists, even if you're not at it. very much like the new W7 start menu, and the thing they copied off, the osx dock.

        i use flock now.

i find that i leave my feeds bar open, and watch the feeds trickle in. i tend to use the links from the faves/feeds as my tabs.

i have anywere between 4 and 12 open at once. currently sitting at 6 but after twelve i know i dont need half of them open and start closing them

I have found i use more than one browser these days and have tabs open between them. Normally google chrome and FF, sometimes ie8

I tend to have less than 20, but I have installed a great little addon for firefox
its to be found at http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/_treestyletab.html.en and they turn the tabs into a tree style, I automatically open any links from a page into child tabs, a couple of clicks, and the tree and all its children dissapear.
you can delete the parent tab, but leave the children open.

I've found the best way is then to have the tabs to open up on the side of the screen, and this gives more height, and allows me to see the tree more effectivly.

one word of "caution", if you try to close down a parent and its child tabs, then the message mistakenly says "do you want to close down ?? tabs" ( where ?? is the total number of tabs you have open) and in fact it should be counting up just those tas you're about to close

            try it, simple but effective.
