It's an interesting point George, i suspect with many different angles to look at. If you're a website competing against it, maybe not so good, but as a buyer, it has to be seen as good. I personally believe that these places only go in the direction that we want them to go. We actually decided to expand these large stores and close down those like Woolworths.
A natural business cull is great for the consumer in my eyes, cuts down the crap and the number of choices and bolsters the businesses doing well. Monopolies are of concern for sure, i think we are nowhere near that in retail though.

If Tesco go bust mate, then there's been a nuclear war, most people have died and food isn't growing. In which case all they had for sale was a few old pairs of Levi's that they'd hidden in the basement.
Supermarkets don't die, they splinter and then join back up a few years later. Food is the pinnacle of retail.

Strange though, as much as I hate seeing companies close down I also hate the greed that the likes of Tesco, Amazon etc are showing in the market place nowadays selling anything that they can get their hands on.
as i mentioned in a different thread yesterday we have seen examples of the big boys selling stuff at a price lower than suppliers sell to small operators.

[for Lee]
Like Origami Titanics' the high street is folding,
And sinking and dying. It's death-throws are growing
No foot-fall for boutiques, no rich passers-by
The creditor wolves pray the weakest will die
Maudlin and guddlin' our politics groan
and creak and confuse and refuse a bank loan
No respite from scorn, no gilt-edged remorse
The economy's fitted for coffin and hearse
Then a beacon of light splits the gloom and the glum
The world of Ecommerce has arrived and begun
Actinic's community charges on, heads held high
Helping our businesses, no longer they die
The high street may die, but we fight with style
Davids fighting Goliaths with cunning and guile
Competing with giants is what we do best
And rising and soaring above all the rest
So good luck to Woolies, their spirit is true
They just want to make a quick buck, one or two
But beware! Those you challenge and ask for a fight
These are Actinic users, they work all day and night
So be brave and be bold and work hard for your users
And don't end up dead, like those poor High Street losers!Fergus Weir - teclan ltd

guddlin'
The idea of guddling a politician is rather appalling.
The poetry's nae so bad though. From one poet to another.
