i've just moved house and need a new broadband provider for home use (used Virgin for years but cant get it where i am now)

the deal with PlusNet looks good...
    # 10GB usage allowance
    # Up to 8Mb speeds
    # Free wireless router
    # Free connection

    at £5.99 pm

just wondering if anyone already has it...

only need it for browsing, online backups, itunes and iplayer (i dont download movies or online games)

The other half has Plus Net - once the best of the small providers. In terms of bang for buck, it's spot on. I always find the service to be better than my BT line which costs £27.99 pm Plusnet never seems to go down and they don't seem to throttle your bandwidth either. Well recommended for the cost.

Though the free router...the wireless range is awful, fails to broadcast through a single wall (new build, not 19th century stone) - the Netgear N wireless router broadcasts throughout the house and into the garden, 'nuff said.

Cheers Grant, nice to know someone has it without to many issues.

its hard to compare stuff sometimes and a nighmare to unravel all the bundled deals from bt/sky. Seems to be the bit i dont want cant be removed from a bundle

One of the boys just got SkyHD+Phone+Broadband package - the HD is awesome, the phone's a phone, but the Broadband....the less said, the better.

I must admit Plusnet's support has been excellent - had to give them a call when they changed from Dial Up to Broadband as the lines weren't working - they sent an engineer the next day to fix the problem without having to push for answers/solutions, as it turns out, the problem was with BT, which subsequently got fixed within half an hour. The webmail servers also got changed last year which caused a couple of problems, again, Plusnet fixed the problem within the day and always follow up with courtesy emails (ironic, I know) to ensure the problem is solved.

This is in Stockbridge, Edinburgh - the speeds are OK for the 8mb package, better than Talk Talk's 8mb package too, which is also in the same price region.

PS. E-mails are always dealt with in a professional manner - you ask a question, they give you a direct response, not like BT where they send you an e-mail telling to look at their web site with a generic e-mail template.

I have been with PlusNet for several years without problems and am currently on the £5.99 deal.

The package includes an 18 month contract which may put some people off.

This link is worth checking out for details of the traffic shaping of the different packages they offer: http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/plusnet_shaping.htm

If you want to check out the PlusNet community forums see here: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php

P.S. As an existing customer I get 25p per month off per customer I refer, so if you do decide to sign up I would be happy to refer you.

I've been with Plus net since 2002. No major problems and generally satisfied with the connection. I have recommended them to a number of people and none of them have had any problems that I am aware of so they get the thumbs up from me.
