    Idiots Guide to Licensing required

    Hello,

I have been looking at the Actinic products with a view to building my first example of an e-commerce site. I am well acquainted with ordinary html site building, but am a novice when it comes to databases, asp, cgi etc.

My first question is about licensing. Am I right in thinking that to build one site i need to buy Catalogue at £380 + Vat, then would have to pay that again for each subsequent site I build, but If I buy Developer at £1500, I can build as many sites as i like?

    Thanks

    Hope this helps:

Actinic Catalog and Actinic Business have a per site license. This means the license key belongs to the site that you have created with the software. Hence, you need a new key for each site you create, and you are able to use the same key on two machines - with one machine uploading to the site, and the other machine downloading the orders. Actinic Order Manager is also licensed in the same way, although normally with Order Manager, the upload of the store is managed with a copy of Actinic Developer.

Actinic Developer is a per machine license. This means you can create and maintain as many sites you want on the one machine using Actinic Developer. This means you can run as many live sites as you want on the one PC. The issue comes if you have designed a site for a client using Developer, and you want to hand over control of that site to a client. In that case, they are going to need a license of Actinic that belongs to them - either Actinic Catalog, Actinic Business or Actinic Order Manager (depending on what the client wants to do with the store).

There is also an issue if you are using Actinic Developer to upload a site, and you want to download orders on a different machine in the same company. Technically, you should get a license of Actinic Order Manager to download the orders with.
