Lol - you too eh? There was a Kaspersky update this afternoon, suspect that's the culprit. It was Firefox I was getting the red warnings on.
Mind you, I am finding the new BBC news site v hard to get my head around. Far too much scrolling and white space for my liking. So being denied access for a while is no bad thing for me.

I've given up with internet security packages as they seem to be too restrictive in general (AKA pain in the *rse) and more suited to home users. We just use a decent antivirus package now (Avira) which also does a very good job of warning about potential threats in visited websites.

I used to think Kaspersky was great until I had issues like this a whille back and now use AVG with Zonealarm instead - never had problems since.

Being a tecchy user I used to use ZoneAlarm.

Right up until I switched to Windows 7 when it caused me too many headaches.

I'm using Norton Internet Security now and am quite amazed that all the server and communication stuff that I use just works without any tweaking.

I agree 100%. A few of my favourite sites have gone this way now. Too much space too fill without stuff getting in the way and they're all putting the main content on the left and additional navigation on the right.

There must be some big IT group pushing this style (microsoft, IBM, HP?). I've seen it come in on BBC, DPreview, DigitalSpy and anandtech. In each case I find it harder to navigate to the stuff I want to read (rather than the stuff they're pushing) and I end up browsing less and viewing fewer pages on the websites.

It seems to me that someone's made a huge mistake here and the websites that have gone this way are going to suffer.

I agree with you Mike. The BBC site has very little meat at the best, mainly just pages or links. The new site is less intuitive and has even less meat in a larger space.

I absolutely hate that big blue block right in the middle, which gets even bigger if you specify your area. And when you click on England, even if you haven't specified where you live, it takes up half my screen. To add insult to injury, the default is NW England, which I couldn't be less interested in, to be frank.

for people who use the mouse in the righthand - righthand nav is far more user friendly.

i 've done several wordpress sites where i've intentionally put the nav to the right - makes perfect sense to me

i also use kasp - but havent experienced any of the issues mentioned - what am i missing?

I don't know if this is connected, but the new BBC site is trying to look for a Facebook account twice on every page. Very annoying at workplaces where Facebook is blocked.

Why is my browser blocking access to the site?

Some of you using Kaspersky security software have had problems accessing the BBC website. We have been in contact with Kaspersky and they have resolved the issue with an update.

BBC Website.

Add another one who thinks the new BBC website is a really poor design. I have to actively hunt for some items I used to find easily.
Right handed users and navigation on the right- I'm right handed and it just feels wrong to me, it's not where I expect it to be, to me thats a usability issue. Major navigation links for me should be at the top or the LHS of the screen.
On the Anti-virus side I use AVG-no problems at all. Gave up Norton because it was so slow and resources hungry.
