    Uninstalling McAfee crashes laptop

    Hi All

    Happy Christmas

I'm not sure if anyone will be able to shed any light on this for me but someone may have experienced something similar.

We have a Samsung x120 netbook which we use to back up our sites to and take off site to give us access to the site and webspace if we have issues with internet in the office or access (snow!).

It came with McAfee already installed on it. We have a multi user licence for CA and I wanted to upgrade the netbook to have this on as well. I have to take McAfee off before CA will install but every time I uninstall McAfee it seems to remove a load of drivers and crash the machine. Blue screen job and alarms ringing. I've tried it as part of the CA install and as a control panel uninstall but the error is the same.

Is there another way to take McAfee off ? and does anyone know why the uninstall won't work as it should?

    TIA
    Dx

are you uninstalling using the control panel, add/remove programs?

did you know there is a Mcafee Removal tool? a quick google search should help.

      Hi Jo

Thanks for this. Sorry its taken me so long to come back. I've tried this this morning and it does the same thing. It seems to take off a load of drivers for some reasons.

      Will keep trying. Thanks D

I've always found removing McAfee a pain.
IIRC the only way I managed it was to trawl through the registry and delete every reference to McAfee by hand.
Don't forget to make a system restore point first!
        Kind Regards

I find CCleaner a great tool at getting rid of rubbish not wanted.
