    What Business Anti Virus Program?

OK i am looking for a new AV program with multi user license. I have always used ESET - Nod32 but the price for the "business" version or rather the cost of multi user license is going up and up. It seems to me that as these companies become more known then the cost steadily rise.

Now i originally had no reason to change if no one had anything better to offer, but on my travels around the internet i downloaded an AV program (zonelarm) which to my supprise found 4 threats on my laptop. Nothing major but things that should not have been there. I normally run a full scan with nod32 once a month but these little buggers had been lurking on my system for a while so now im not so sure i want to renew this especially as they are by no means the cheapest.

So does spending more really get you a better program, it would seem not.

So any suggestions would be appreciated

I use Zonalarm (firewall only) with AVG (AV only) and find that as good as any and it's free.

I did have some compatibility issues between the two on W7 but after sorting out it seems to be ok.

Adequate protection is certainly not based on price it seems.

hmm i have removed zonealarms av and installing vipre ill give this a go and see. Interesting the licenses are 1, 2 & 3 or more

the user interface is easy to use just wonder about the program itself. Im going to have a dig around in the settings and see what optiosn there are

OK found the business part, i have to drop them an email for a price - normally means its going to be costly, any website that displays POA is ashamed to show the real cost. The contact us page breaks down the bands for the number of pc's you need protection for so why they cant give you a price for these - well i have my opinion as to why

Well i guess i will wait and see what they come up with and listen to the hard sell. Time to get together some pricing from other companies to put back to them

You don't say what you are trying to protect, Pcs/Servers etc but here is a good independent review of all the latest software:

          http://anti-virus-software-review.to...ess-antivirus/

Kaspersky comes out as No1 and interestingly I believe Zonealarm now uses a Kaspersky based threat engine. No antivirus can claim to be 100% so I wouldn't be comfortable recommending one personally although, like you, I'm currently using NOD32. I have around a year before renewal but would be interested in your final choice and experiences.

I've used Kaspersky for three years and found it excellent most of the time. I recently had to uninstall the latest version (2011) from one computer running Vista 32 bit as there was a huge conflict I couldn't solve which kept accessing the hard drive and slowing the computer to a halt. There's lots of discussion about this on the web. On my W7 64 bit machine it's fine however, and on my aged XP laptop also. I use it in conjunction with Malwarebytes and haven't had a (known) malware problem for several years.
I replaced Kaspersky with AVG free on the Vista machine, which seems to be working fine, although early days. I used this before I switched to Kaspersky and had no problems- I moved to Kaspersky as it had a better review in PC Pro some time ago.

currently running Kasperky Internet Suite on 30+ machines, majority xp, but with vista 32, vista624, win7-32 and win7-64 (up to ultimate) - all for mostly business but 10+ for personal.
they do "business licences", but never ever used them (not cost efffective).
I always buy "cheap licences" on e*ay for about £5.00 or less per licence, even if I buy the 2009 licences, they always work and allow you to upgrade to the latest versions.
3 user or 5user (or more) are the best value, - make sure its the suite, not just AV.

All licences come with full disks, never just the licence numbers I once bought a batch of licence numbers (without disks) that got black-listed by Kaspersky, but got my money back through payp** and then bought again.

Kaspersky itself is up there with the best of them, and according to the different reports, Norton sometimes beat, sometimes not.

I have tried the free ones AVG etc but If I'm only paying £5-8 and have the phoen numebrs for support, do I "save money" by having the free ones.

as I type, I'm just telling my sister which eb*y number to buy to install kaspersky for her new laptop. and just found a 5 user licences is £5.38 +£1.00 postage

              Just my 2p worth.

the AV is only for the pc's on the network so nothing fancy. I looked at alot of these, including the vipre one today, the business versions is well over the top for my needs and as usual with these that do remote install and management i have yet to find one that works. Everyone i have ever tried fails remote installation as it cant even logon to the pc to start it.

I dont doubt i would have to set some specific rules on all of these before hand, in which case i might aswell install them manually as i dont require 100's.

I looked at kaspeky but never thought of ebay for licenses, all of these have a home user option with various license, having not read the t&c's on any of these do you think a business installation is acceptable?

OK ill give it all some thought and further investigation and let you know what i end up with

                Thanks for the input

nearly all of the PC's I'm controlling has UltraVnc installed, and all (with the correct settings) allow full control - I happily control Kaspersky (completely) using VNC.
Nobody has complained at the licences, many of them are at a fixed ip address, (pointing to a business) and all of those have a business email address as the registered contact.
I have had reason and have use the help line to obtain guidance as to "what to do about..."
reading the "business versions", the majority of the extra is the "file server, proxy and smartphone protection" one thing it does have is the "central management of the suite of programmes"
for me personally, I'vefound that once I've set them up, the majority just run themselves.
on Thursday, I had a corrupt blacklist on one PC, just rolled back the database, and re-applied the update, up and running in a couple of minutes

At the kaspersky website, they compare the products, http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/small-off...ty?blocknum2=2 and the InternetSecurity Suite is definately amongs the list (ie up to 10 pc's) - after that, they assume your starting to run your own mail servers etc.

I've been using Kaspersky for the last 15 months or so and I'm very happy with it. I used to be an AVG / Zonealarm user but it got too clunky and annoying so I stripped it out. I also wanted something a bit more 'professional' for PCI compliance.

I haven't thought of using ebay for licenses. That's worth looking at if the licences are genuine. I do find that it's cheaper to buy a new box on Amazon than renew via Kaspersky though.

In terms of performance hit, I do find the scanning can slow down web page loading a bit. It's only really noticeable on a Celeron D machine I have here. Not a problem with modern multicore machines.

Running AVG on server and all machines, no problems, found Kapaski slowed things up a bit

AVG recommended with hardware company and seems to do the job

Eset NOD 32 Smart Security or whatever it's called these days for us. It is a little pricier, but it never affects our computers in any way - completely transparent, which I can't say for all the others we've tried (all the usual suspects).
Regarding Eset missing a couple of things, our experience is that no package catches everything, so we run Eset continually and run Webroot's Spy Sweeper periodically.
Haven't been infected in the 5 years we've been using it.
We changed to Eset after Norton blithely permitted one of our machines to get Melissa'd
                          Kind Regards

I have issues with nod32 and actinic, it continually crashes the upload with no error message, now i have to turn of real time file protection when i need to do an upload. Definately not really an ideal situation, and this is a problem on a vista m/c win 7 64bit and win7 32bit. So as my license is due i decided to see whats around and what people here recommend.

So far kaspersky and AVG seem to be the choice, i stopped using AVG a couple of versions ago so maybe this might be worth a visit as they also do a commercial product.

                            Thanks Again

I ment these management consoles are suppose to allow you to remote install the av and perform other functions aswell. Also you can control or set preferences over the complete network of pc's from my admin console. But as i said i have yet to get one to work. Its probably me doing something wrong
