Return emails but have bad addresses

How is it you get some emails sent to you, but when you reply you find the return address has failed

I assume when you hit reply it just send back to where it came from, but some return email address show comma's instead of fullstops, extra spaces etc and some just look correct but get failed

depends what people have typed in the "return address" or "Email address" field.
If it's a contact form email, it's relying on people correctly typing their email address.
If it's coming from email software (outlook, for example) they may have a mis-typed reply email address in their set-up
Some people are just unobservant and see what they want/expect to see, not what is there

      Thanks Tracey

No it's always with customers using their email not contact forms and you would think that if they had it in settings they would soon worry if they got no return emails.

maybe they're used to being billy-no-mates anyway

Spme email clients (the new version of thunderbird, for example) allow you to overwrite the default "reply to" email address with a different one, as you compose an email.

It's possible people are doing this and mis-typing rather than it being a fixed setting, perhaps?

Best email on an order this week (or worst depending on how you view it):

          www. ******* at hotmeal.co uk.org

The only thing changed is the name with ***'s - all gaps and everything else are as supplied. It was also nice to get a screaming phone call demanding to know why an order confirmation was not received (because they always get them from every other site don't you know).

          Superb

          Regards - Helen

doesn't surprise me one bit, Helen!
It's surprising how many half-wits are allowed online!

I have to admit, using One Stop Order Processing, I do have all orders' email addresses on display, in our main view, so if one is typed dodgily (is that even a word?!) I can sometimes/often tell at a glance and then fix/re-send.

Just to keep the peace, yannow?

Something for the wishlist from me - can incorrectly formatted emails not be allowed to proceed to the PSP please. This week one woman has tried 8 times to put through an order with a comma between the gmail and the com. Either that or disallow copy and paste from the email line to the confirm email line?

reminds me of the passenger at british airways that complained that she'd received a bacon sandwich on the flight, and this was despite the fact that she declared she was a vegetarian.
not sure what the passenger said when it was pointed out that the wrapper actually said BA.COM no bacon

                      Customer Mistakes

I find that customers who make a mistake often make a number of mistakes, such as making typo errors in their name, address, postcode and telephone number, as well as email address. They can also be the same people who think delivered means the same as despatched, so were expecting an order placed at 2.55 pm (our cut-off for same day despatch is 3.00 pm) and delivered at 3.00 pm, 5 minutes later!

The same people do not know what a "working day" is even though we actually give a definition online.

I suppose one has to bear in mind that a number of people are on drugs or drink, and a number have mental health issues, so there is no reason why we should not be getting some of them. We have to just take that in our stride, I keep telling myself.

I had one yesterday who placed an order in the evening, paying by PayPal, and two minutes later I received an email from PayPal that they had raised a dispute, would I give the proof of delivery details or proof of refund, etc.

Personally, I'd have refunded it 2 minutes later, in that case, and done no more with it!

On a similar thread We print items, despite the fact that we print it exactly how the customer enters it the amount of customers who use lowercase, no spaces or incorrect format for dates (usually it's a combination of all three) is shocking and then they go on to use lowercase for their address details.

Add the code from the forum that capitalises all fields, usually a good help in these situations.
