Slightly OT I know but that's not as ridiculous a question as it seems Tracey - I ordered some clothes from the Next website and wasn't asked for any payment at PoS, but it said my clothes (£300+ worth) would be delivered the next day. I queried this with customer services but they said that's how they work, they would invoice me a month later. I wasn't overly happy with this but they said there was no way to pay for goods at the PoS.

Having said all that the clothes arrived on time so no big drama - but I struggle to see how that business model can work with the amount of bad debt they must rack up from people who would in no way pass a credit check but can order hundreds of pounds worth of gear without a credit/debit card. (once I'd made my first payment, clearing my balance, they upped my account to £900)

yeh, I know how the mail order companies work. I've been taking advantage of such a system for years!

However, we're not exactly in the "catalogue mail order" line of business and it clearly says on the website that all goods are paid for on order etc etc

Usually we get requests the other way around!

Yeah so do we!! If I send you an 'official' purchase order can you send me the goods .... errm let me think about that for a nano second ..... no!

We quite often get asked "what size will fit my boy/girl" or the other favorite "please tell your courier / postman to deliver between 16:00 and 16:30 when I am home"

We get these questions all the time.

I was taking a telephone order and it went like this:

Me: [pen in hand] Ok, and do you have an email address?

Him: Erm, I've got two, which one do you want?

Me: Erm..

Last week we had a customer come into our shop (Jewellery Shop) and ask for Fish and Chips, very confused she told us that we were a Fish and Chip shop only last week. She continued to look around just in case she could see remnants of last weeks Fish and Chip shop and then looked at us as though we were up to no good.

Didn't want to give address

We had somebody who did not want to supply her name and address as she was concerned about security. I explained to her as politely and calmly as possible that we needed her address in order for the carrier to be able to deliver to her, not to mention needing it for the payment system. She said she would go elsewhere - good luck with that.
