    Actinic cold calling - again

Just received another cold call from Actinic Online offering me a substantial discount to transfer my SellerDeck database to their cloud service.

Can someone from SellerDeck confirm that my data was sold or given to Actinic or how the whole transfer was undertaken. I have a grey area in my understanding of who has my information and who is entitled to it.

Happy to discuss off forum if preferable.

Best speak to SD directly, however my understanding is that there is nothing too *grey* happening here. Both companies (Actinic/Oxatis) merged (*I believe), therefore their customer lists became a shared asset, then SellerDeck and Actinic Online emerged as separate entities. Part of that arrangement may have been the sharing of this shared asset? I recall someone posting something along these lines some time ago, however I don't think they would have wanted this kind of toe-stepping going on.......

In my lay-mans knowledge of the law when a company splits so are the assets .. you either get the 60" TV or the Dog .. not both .. probably wrong as usual which is good news for my dog!

Probably even more confusing if it is not a full merger but partial shares in each.

......to carry the analogy further, perhaps they both brought their own address books to the marriage and swapped names and addresses so they could both contact both sets of *friends and family, in case of an emergency. So one gets the dog and the leather-bound address book whilst the other gets the TV and the pink, marabou covered address book!

Is that the limited edition one with the pen and pink feather on top?

No! Unfortunately I think the limited edition only came with the 70" TV Besides, the dog would most likely chew the feather end anyway! Part of the reason they let the dog go I presume!?!

                Ignoring the banter....

I too had a call in the last few days, and it's not the first.

In my case, unfortunately, I, and my staff, still use Actinic Desktop (V9, V10), and Actinic Payments, that's what we call it - it loads as that, that's what's on the splash screen, etc., and always will be. I'm aware of Sellerdeck (because when I click "Actinic Forum" in my Favourites, SD loads.....) and I know the 'history'.

But my staff have never heard of SD and so put the call through to me (they manage to field most rubbish calls on their own), they just know that we use Actinic so they think it's important. In my haste, when I'm busy running up to Christmas, I don't think straight, can't be sure, so take the call.

I know for a fact (because it's what I always say) that on previous calls I have asked for my name & telephone number to be removed from their (new Actinic's) database. But still had a another call this week.

FWIW, it would have been better if traditional Actinic had kept the name (even though the actual word is something to do with skin cancer) and the Oxatis arm of the deal became Sellerdeck. Nuff said.

I had also asked to be removed on previous cold calls, but didn't in this instance. If they are not able or willing to implement my request to be removed then they can waste their valuable time again trying to sell to me.

I think that the loop hole here would be that if it is a telephone call then the caller could reasonably argue that the business phone number is in the public domain on website / yellow pages or what ever ?

Irritating no doubt, but in the grand scheme of things, not the end of the world as it take two seconds to say "no thanks"....... every day it seems we get calls from phone companies, firms that say they can appeal business rates, energy brokers, credit card processors, cheap carrier bags - the list is ever growing, none of which have I asked / invited to call us, but we know full well our number is floating around out there to be called

We all know Actinic and Sellerdeck share the same office suit / (directors ?), and the assumption is easy to make that Actinic will canvass Sellerdeck users, but like wise it is possible that Actinic researchers just cold call any e-commerce website they stumble across ?

We live in a world where more and more folk are after our £, and it is in most cases a buyers market.

Perhaps we should all start calling them and offering them nice things to buy !!

I was just being silly but actually we managed to stop most of the cold calls here by asking the same silly question each time we got a call (in the line of you answer my question first and then I'll discuss what you are interested in) so perhaps there might be something in that. As the least the sales staff would know they were on to a looser if they got asked 'the question'

... and why don't Actinic-Oxatis ever respond to this thread to justify their calls, they must see them

This thread has had over 200 Views by dedicated users of SD Desktop, therefore all running e-commerce websites, often more than one.

A working day of 8 hours is 480 minutes. If we each called them once on one particular day, that's a call every 2½ minutes, maybe they'd get the message!

I had a private message from both Alan Heales (Support Manager SellerDeck) and Chris Barling (Head Dude SellerDeck) in response to this thread.

There is an agreement allowing Oxatis to market to the existing oldco database a limited number of times per year which is fair enough and I have no issue with that. Alan has now had my details removed from Actinic newco which is all I really wanted and hoped had happened the last time I requested.
