I guess it makes sense. The facebook like farms also click on the ads as it hides their fake activity and also gives facebook a reason not to close them down. It's a win-win for everybody except the advertiser.

I suspect the only sensible way to advertise on facebook is to contacts you already have and 'friends-of-friends' / 'more like' (or whatever it's called).

Not that I do any advertising on Facebook. It's just something I think I should do, but also aware of the pitfalls.
