    Online Store Folder Name

The default setting are Online Store Folder Name: acatalog

Just wondering what people have used instead of acatalog or perhaps what they would use if they had their time again?

Use something that is relevant to your product range to assist with the SEO potential.

    so, maybe... party-supplies or fancy-dress

    along those lines.

Sorry, meant to add some meat / examples:

http://uk.ioncamera.com/ion/ - this one uses the folder name 'ion'. 3 letters but those 3 letters made a massive difference to the footprint the site then generated and traffic it helped to increase even though ion was in the domain name.

Switch that to http://www.trinityhomecare.co.uk/liv...e-in-care.html and the folder is called 'live-in-care' where this is what the site provides, i.e. Live in Care services, but as the domain name does not have those words, using it in the folder again increased its footprint and relevancy in the search engines for that search term massively.

Just the sort of thinking I was after Ian.

With some EMD taking a bit of a hit in Google recently, this would enable some brand building with an Url but keep the site focused on it's trade with the Online Store Folder Name

Just a warning: Before doing any acatalog to xxxx change, go into your sites acatalog folder using an FTP client and gather a full list of every single html page which is in there. Then pre create a htaccess file with redirect instructions for the pages to the new folder name and (very old pages which are still in your acatalog folder but were removed from the content tree ages ago), redirect them to appropriate living pages, so that old links dont get lost and search engines can act and update based on the htaccess redirection instructions.

Look up htaccess for full details on it..

I would be careful with keywording your store folder name, a while back G took less importance of domain names, the same applies to urls and in this case the shop name.

If keywords appear in the url's too much it can still be seen as stuffing, we had one site that took ths approach, after changing it to simply "shop" the site improved in SEO
              Many Thanks

On our redesigned site when it goes live we are changing

                Qualitysilver.co.uk/acatalog to qualitysilver.co.uk/Jewellery

We have always ranked badly for the term "Silver Jewellery" as the word Jewellery is difficult to get in on the descriptions without it seeming like we are keyword stuffing.

Hopefully the change of folder name will also give a better result.
                Regards
