    Inventory systems

What are other options other than Quickbooks for maintaining inventory? Or do you use Actinic as your master for inventory?

I use QB right now, with the Quickbooks link to/from Actinic. I like that, but I have just discoverd that I have tons of data integrity errors in my Quickbooks file -- with no good solution for correcting it. If I have to start from scratch, I'm wondering if it would be better to manage inventory elsewhere, and enter only invoices for the order total into QB, rather than each product.

I'd like to know how some others are handling this.

    Thanks

    Pat,
I assume your data integregity issue is associated to the fact that your web form does not populate the feilds as you desire in Quickbooks. This issue is on the ajenda to fix in the next release of Link. I can not speak for Actinic but I anticiapate a new link build that will resolve this problem and help clean up your data integrity.

Alternatively you can create an item list in quickbooks and export the list to excel. In 2004 Quickbooks you can set this up very easily to be done on a daily basis. Then you can link your Actinic to the inventory export file using odbc external linking. Map teh feilds you want to exchange between the excel spreadsheet and Actinic and your all set. This is a very easy way to make mass adjustments to pricing and update your database including inventory.

Brian, thanks for the reply, but no, you are off the hook! This is unrelated to that completely. I have corrupted records that are causing QB to shut down. I know which records they are, and I was told to delete them. But when I try to display them to delete them, QB closes. I can't archive, I can't delete the bad records, I can't do anything. My QB files works (most of the time), but since I can't archive, it just keeps growing and growing and growing. Which isn't going to work.

So, I have to rebuild everything from scratch, which doesn't make me happy. So I'm wondering if it would be better to use a product more focused on inventory management, and just use QB for financial data. I'm really just asking for information at this point. QB may be as good as anything else out there. But I better not EVER have to rebuild again!

        Pat,
There is a good chance I can fix your quickbooks file for you. I have used some advanced tools on Quickbooks files and managed to fix curruption in the past. Its best to export teh customer records and the item information to lists in excell

then kill off using teh archive a little bit at a time
Also if you have too many records in teh datafile you can import the file into premeir or enterprise and doo teh data compation there. If you want me to give it a whirl, send me a backup or qbf file to look at.

Brian, you've got to be the most generous person on earth! I can't do any kind or archive at all. Part of the archive process is to validate the data, and QB dies on the validation. I assume due to the corrupted transactions. I can't delete the transactions. I can locate them in the register, put my curson on that line, then File, Delete. Quickbook gives me a C=43 (data integrity error), then shuts down. My log file is HUGE -- full of errors. But most of them are related to two transactions. If you have the secret software to find and delete these trans, I would be forever grateful!

Unrelated question -- when is 7.0 going to be available in the US and what is the pricing?
