Alowing more than one user to see orders

As I understand it actinic can only download orders to one machine, I have had a look at this thread http://community.actinic.com/showthr...multiple+users and the consensus seems to be that there is no way for more than 1 machine to be able to view the same set of orders.

I am setting up an American vendor but shipping from the UK. He will work on a commission basis and deal with website upkeep etc so I need to process the orders from here but he needs to be able to see what his customers are ordering.

What I am thinking is that if I can create a backup of the actinic database each day and then use an auto ftp program to send it to a website and then my us agent could do the same to take it off the site. Not elegant I know but functional!

This obviously has some security implications so can anyone suggest a secure way of doing this? I was thinking either using a secure server or using a macro to strip the credit card numbers before sending it. Does anyone have any thoughts?

      Thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortunately he really needs to be able to print reports and track orders progress so that when people call him with queries he can pull up order details quickly.

Is it possible to set up a 'Virtual Private Network' between your PC and his? I don't know the ins and outs of how this is done (before you ask) but that's what I have heard other people doing.

          Hi,

We've just done a successful trial with GotoMyPC (www.gotomypc.com) for remote control of one PC from any other PC - so long as both are connected to the web and preferably by ADSL or similar. We've also used the Remote Desktop service built into Windows XP with no problems. Both services work through our corporate hardware and personal software firewalls. We've had limited success using Microsoft NetMeeting's Remote Desktop feature but this didn't work too well through the firewalls.

These "remote control" solutions cut down on the hassle and expense of setting up a VPN and are less bandwidth hungry as only the mouse/keystrokes and display change data are transmitted over the wire.

Let us know if you need more info.

          Cheers

We have a multiuser version of our One Stop Order processing product (the one we wrote for that fencing company :-)) in the pipeline, it should be in beta in the next week or two, using this, your American office could use OSOP to view and process orders - he could filter on country = USA and so get only his orders listed. He would however need to have access to the computer that you are running access on - ie. he would need to be able to setup a remote drive on his machine pointing to your machine - the ins and outs of that are beyond me. Unless I have misunderstood your question this should sort out your problem.

Seeing as we don't know the guy that well (yet) I can't really give him free reign on our network and probably will not want to for even one machine.

I will look into the GoToMyPc software so thanks for the suggestions Imis and Jan.

There is some FTP software out soon with inbuilt timer and encryption so I may just swap the catalog.mdb file back and forth every 12 hours to enable us both to modify things without access to each others network.
