Partial Site Design import can fail with no error message

Tested on 12.0.5 but may apply to other versions as well.

If a Partial Site Design contains a Selector that refers to a Layout that’s not already in the library or not in the PSD itself, then that Selector isn’t installed into the Library but no error message is displayed.

Example: Go to Design / Library / Layouts / Products and create 2 new Layouts TEST1 and TEST2 put some dummy text in them). Now create a Selector TESTSEL. Set TESTSEL to use layouts offered: TEST1 and TEST2.

Now create a Partial Site Design and under Layouts, select TEST2 and TESTSEL (omit TEST1). Don't include anything else in this PSD.

Now switch to another site, import the PSD and you'll see that only layout TEST2 makes it into the Library and selector TESTSEL is omitted (even though it shows in the PSD contents list displayed while importing). However no error is displayed and the import reports it completed successfully.

Going off on a tangent slightly, if when you are in the Snapshot Wizard and untick 'Unchanged'' and tick 'Customized', then the selector and both layouts are ticked and so will be included in the snapshot.

The designer would then not mistakenly miss any required layouts.

I have a similar issue when creating new layouts for an existing selector - the work around is to copy an existing used layout and then change the name and content. May be worth trying assigning TEST1 first, copy that and edit to TEST2 then repeating the PSD and see if it brings the selector over
