I did have a customer refuse to give me the security code the other week. Because some bright spark at his bank told him never to give it anyone.

I explained what is was for and that i could not process his order without it and suggested that he contact his bank and explain that i was asking for it and ask there advice.

About 2 hours later he rang me back and gave it to me.

    Cheers

In V8 you have the option to switch on login and to encrypt credit card details
Not that I have forgotten yet (most likely will with the onset of old age) but is there any way to recover or disable the password if a user forgets?

This had occured to me too after being asked for a snapshot password by Actinic. I would have thought that at least Actinic would have a master password of some sort!

So basically guys, you want a secure system, that can be hacked into if you forget your password?

Urmm, do I need to point out the flaw in this thinking?

I certainly hope that there isn't a 'master keyword', and if there is, I certainly don't want it broadcast publically.
It is very unliklely that any security system is hack proof, but it would a daft in the extreme for Actinic to make this known.

Sorry to shoot you down on this - but I'm sure you can see my point.

            Martin,

Totally get what you are saying, and certainly wasn't talking about having a master password broadcast anywhere!

I guess what i would really want to know is that if a password was forgot then you could get in touch with Actinic and they could take your snapshot, jiggle with it a bit, and send you back an accessible site. I would imagine that the credit card details would (and probably should) be unreadable but at least you would be able to access Actinic!

Wait a minute (has brainwave). Can't you just reimport the snapshot and not import the user logon settings? Then reset the password from there. WHat would happen to the credit card details then?
            Cheers

We do exactly this, so I just spoke with Vodafone who make the machine we use and they referred me to Barclays who handle the transactions. We bank with Cater Allan (at the moment). Barclays just referred me back to Vodafone.

They say you cant do it when it suits them, but do they really want 1000's of merchants to stop taking credit cards and see a fall in profits.

                Answer NO

They use the rules when it means they might have to refund some money from there own piggy bank. Like insurance companies that employ people to find ways of not paying insurance claims.
