Sections with multiple pages option ...

    Hi,

(I'm still on V7, so if you've sorted this, forget the following.)

The ability to break large product sections into pages would be very useful. For example if I have 100 sub-sections in a section, it would be nicer to have 4 pages of 25, as opposed to 1 of 100, and in fact very cute if users could say how many products per page from a pull down of a couple of options.

The main reason for this is upload times on large pages.
Browsers want to be able to flick and skip around pages without waiting for full section uploads.

Maybe in the Section Layout Template you could have your first row second row layout defnition and follow this by maximum number of sub sections per page, for example 15, and Actinic then automatically generate the correct number of pages based on the number of sections and the number entered, and create all of the first page next page, stuff...

Example: If I had 52 Subsections in a Section, and set my Section Layout Template to 15, I would end up with 4 pages, all with a header and footer, like...

    <last>, (1), (2), (3), (4), <next>

    etc etc.

    Thanks, Simon.

Have a look at p16 - 'Creating Links to 'Previous' and 'Next' Sections'

Basically you need to manually create your own sections with your required amount of products in them. Then you can user the Advanced User Guide technique to take the customers from one section into the next one, and also back again.

                Hi Chris

what you suggest is feasible BUT it adds another level on my catalog.

i already have several levels (PC Games -> A-Z list -> A (PC) ) so i do not want to add another level which by the way will not have any meaningfull name and it will be impossible for the user to identify at which subsection is the game that he wants.

it will be very nice if actinic was able to have an option to split the subsection with the products automatically when it is uploaded and display the suggestion above.

                i.e. Page 1,2..,5,6

Been a long time since I looked at this one.
It doesn't actually do what I originally asked.

The Previous Next malarky only shifts between Sections at the same level, and if I remember correctly if you are at the Last page or the First page hitting Last or First caused an error.

Anyway, my original request was about splitting big sections using the Section Layout tab.

The Section Layout tab asks things like First Row, Subsequent Rows, Top to Bottom etc. but wouldn't it be nice if it asked number of products/sections per page and automatically generated secondary/tertiary pages, based on your input and the number of subsections in that section and then automatically created the corresponding page links, (First), (1), (2),...(Last) etc.

You see this on sites all of the time.

If a Section has 100 subsections and I enter 25 per page, Actinic creates the 4 pages required and sets up the page to page links.... etc, without me manually creating sections to do the same?

                  With me?

I am 100% with you, and have referred your comments to the development team again. This one has been sitting near the top of the wish list for many years, but it is incredibly difficult to do with static pages as really if you ware doing this page splitting you also want the ability for your online customers to sort the page contents based on price etc. and this isn't supported in our static HTML pages at the moment.
