This thread seems to have caused a few tempers to rise and accusations to be banded around. Really all we need is to keep to the point and if you want Actinic to implement Google Checkout put your vote in and if not don't.
Malcolm (Ruralweb) kindly started the thread after I posted a question enquiring about it on 13th April, not realising I could put it on the wishlist myself. Lets all be happy , after all it's Monday, St. Georges day!!!

My original question on Ecommerce Business Issues

    Google Checkout

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just discovered Google Checkout and wonder if anybody else has signed up/intergrated onto their site and if anyone has feedback on it's use.

Google hater? Not me. I think they're running a great business and have pretty good business ethics. I respect them far more than most large companies I can think of.

Glad to see you have enough 'balls' that you can leave the thread open. I didn't even think of the connotations when making my post.

        Google Checkout implementation

After a long, interesting and frank discussion with Chris Barling on the Google Checkout issue, it has become clear to me that Actinic will not be implementing the integration in the forseeable future.

I will therefore give up posting on this matter, there are only so many dead horses you can flog in one lifetime.

Mal, if you get it to work I for one will pay good money for the patch. I think its worth investing in regardless of Actinic's opinion.

Proof that the wishlist is a total waste of time..... or

that Google integration is not very easy?

This is really disappointing news from Actinic if they don't provide an *easy* way to integrate Google Checkout. I'm quite sure for the programming gurus at Actinic it's fairly straight-forward to accomplish.

I've just spent the best part of the weekend trying to get this to work in either v7 or v8 without any success

Someone must have an idea on how to get it to work?

I believe he later confirmed in a subsequent post that this was not full install, as certain parts were not working. Maybe these parts are what's troubling actinic, it'd be hard to accept any other reason for not offering this shortly.

I've liked that Mr Barling pops onto the forum when the shit has really hit the fan to back up his troops and share the bullets, much respect. It would be very nice to also see his appearance on things such as this, once in a while, it would certainly nip it in the bud and put us all clear on the matter. Or do we all need to ring in?

Maybe only a part installation but one which I for one could live with (adding payment received manually) - and apparently more than Actinic have managed. Nothing short of "we have listened and we are working on it and it will be ready soon" will nip this one in the bud.

                      Hi all,

I'm finding this lack of impetus from Actinic very frustating. I've had a little play with templates and things but don't really know what I'm doing.

Basically if you paste the code below into one of the checkout templates and can then put the correct actinic NETQUOTEVAR into the right variable field it should work shouldn't it?

Even if the Order No. and Total was sent in the hidden form it would be enough (after all Paypal PSP doesn't include all ordered items).

I know this integration would only place the order as Payment Pending but Google Checkout can email you when new orders are received, so you could input payment received manually within Actinic.

                      Anybody else close?

                      See code and links below.

                      Cheers

                      Nick

Understanding the Basics of the HTML API
To use Google Checkout's HTML API, you will need to add a form to your site that uses hidden input fields to list the contents in the customer's shopping cart. The form's submit button will be a Google Checkout button similar to the one shown below.

The HTML below shows a sample form that contains an order for a jar of peanut butter. The hidden fields in the form also indicate that there is one shipping method available for the order and that the merchant charges tax of 8.75 percent if the order is shipped to New York.

                      <form method="POST" action="https://sandbox.google.com/checkout/cws/v2/Merchant/1234567890/checkoutForm" accept-charset="utf-8">

                      <input type="hidden" name="item_name_1" value="Peanut Butter"/>

Or just change one of your unused payment options to "Google Checkout" and request the payment manually via email. Not the best way of course, but a simple workaround all the same, and better than nothing at all.

There certainly seems to be strong feelings both for and against Google Checkout and whether its worth implementing.

Perhaps Actinic should e-mail their database and ask them to vote on whether or not they would like it to be included. After all without the likes of us Actinic would not survive and as the saying goes "the customer is always right"

It would appear from this thread that the voting would be along the lines of 85 for, 1 against, therefore I would suggest that their time would be better spent getting on with the job rather than having a vote and leaving it to their customers to try to sort something out

There have been 1,719 views of this thread so far, which is the most in this wishlist forum, I don't think Actinic need to email their database these figures speak for themselves...

If you want Google Checkout or just feel you should have the same options as everybody else who doesn't use Actinic please put your vote here.

I believe Actinic are working hard trying to keep us all happy and make their cart the best in the business, that makes them richer and us too, they need our feedback to steer them in the right direction.

                                Keep voting.
