    Compact Database warning

Many problems within Catalog seem to require a `database compact`, especially with users who don't frequent the forum that much. Just thinking it might be a good idea to build in a small warning indicator of some sort, a pop up even, so announce something like, `its been x days since you last compacted your database`, it might just prevent a number of problems before they actually occur. It all helps.

Taking it further, perhaps having a `hoovering` of the database fuction, purging deleted orders, content, etc, then compacting the databases in one lazy click.

There is an option in Access to automatically compact a database each time it is closed down. I don't know if this can be made to work via Actinic though.

Why does not compacting always give all these problems? Surely it must be something to do with database management that causes the problem.

I use access databases quite a lot and do compact them sometimes but only normally when they become very large or slow. I certainly wouldn't expect to have to do it to be able to successfully create a snapshot or swap between sites etc., which seems to be the case with the Actinic database.

This in an excellent suggestion, which could really help keep Actinic running smoothly.

Does anyone know if there is a command line switch to compact the database? None is listed in the help.

Great idea, we could cut the forum in half just by that.
