Best Actinic Host Vote

Of all the things that regularly go wrong with Actinic its hosting that crops up almost every week with people asking for the best host. Its always subjective and gotten to the stage where now several members including myself dont bother replying anymore.

IMO it would be of use if a vote was setup by chris with all the usual hosts listed so people could vote for the best - make it a sticky and hopefully we can cut down on the number of best host posts.

First we need the list of hosts so I will start with:

As long as Actinic works with then then it should be listed - you never know there may be hundreds of sites using them and they turn out to be the best Actinic hosts ever.

An excellent idea.

If anyone has time to figure out whether we can rate each host on a number of key factors, then that would seem like a good idea.

The usual reply to a 'which host' question is 'well it all depends...'. Some people need handholding with control panels, some need actinic setup help, some are looking for 'value', others just want reliability.

My list of factors would be:

- Reliability
- Value for Money
- Customer Service
- Actinic Knowledge

Hosting is a big money maker for the companies involved so this votemay also increase the level of support given to Actinic sites from them if they know they are being voted on.

Top vote = lots of hosting contracts.

Nice - wonder if the forum can cope with that - should keep chris busy.

Its subject as stated but it should balance out as its only one vote per member - currently on member with one site can give a very bad impression of a host when in reallity they may be quite good.

As far as incidents go you'd probably get people who remember the bad times (over one weekend say) and would instantly forget their other two years problem free hosting...


Value for money could be a good topic all on its own, as for `speed` with the use of broadband its maybe harder to notice slowdown on scripts, checkout etc?
