Selling in Quantities of Less than 1

Would LOVE to be able to sell in quantities of less than 1. We sell a lot of fruit and veg and people want to know the price per kg but to be able to order (for example) 0.25kg of a product. Does not work with the products we sell to sell them in units of less than a kg...

Raised a thread on this one here:

Looks like quite a few others would like a solution to this one in the next upgrade if possible

Would suggest what is required is an option on each product to have the items EITHER as whole numbers with validation (as at present) OR to allow entry of decimal places with a limit on the number of decimal places. With the decimal places option the price would have to be calculated and rounded correctly.

My interest is for selling fabrics and trimmings by the metre. Most customers do not want whole metres!

              Hi guys

Any idea if this is something that is likely to be added at any time soon? We're still battling with issues around customers wanting to buy in quantities of less than 1...

Don't want to head down the path of developing alternatives if this is something that is likely to happen some time soon

              Cheers

I've customised a few sites to deal with this (picture frames, pond liners, lawn turf, carpets, curtains, etc).

My approach is that you're buying one of an item (length of cloth, carpet) which then has informative text added to the cart showing how many metres, sq ft, whatever, the customer entered. The product price is set to that of a single unit (square metre, square foot, etc). The displayed price is calculated by multiplying the unit price and the entered value. This calculated price then overrides the Actinic unit price one.

I've no off-the shelf version , unfortunately, as each site tends to have bespoke needs and limits (maximum width for a carpet for example).
