    County field in customer address

A field in the Customer Address field for COUNTY

Yes, you can use the State dropdown box, but these are often used in shipping as regions, eg England, Scotland in the UK and you would need to set up each and every county.

        Counties

Great Idea gets my vote. Can't see why it's not been done already.

Thanks for the input. I have passed it on to the development team.

            County?

Sorry, but that wouldn't get my vote as "county" doesn't form part of the royal mail's "postal address", and as such is interesting but meaningless, unless you have a courier who charges by county...

People may be attached to their county, but by and large the UK delivery services don't give a stuff; they all work from postcode backwards to address line 1.

Now, if you were to ask for being able to generate (read "force") a shipping zone from a postcode, you'd get my vote... in spades.

I have to agree, counties really dont mean much to royalmail, but do to people who deliver on there own transport, when your driver is delivering all over the uk the county is important. as in lincolnshire has more than one postcode area, means something to royalmail but to be honest building you run around deliveries in licolnshire is more important than were in the county they are.

Unfortunately not everything can go via royalmail or a carrier!

No i will agree that allowing shipping to be defined by a postcode area would be a great advantage for just about anyone using a carrier. A letter cost the same to a ZE (shetlands) postcode cost the same as a PO (portsmouth) but hugely different for a carrier.

So perhaps allowing you to define postcode areas under shipping so that a new table will be brought up when the customer enters there postcode in the checkout, maybe even postcode for request information early?

I suspect I'm being thick here, but what is wrong with using the country field that is already available in the address?

Just spotted that - arrgh, there is a field for county as well but it's not validated.
