Text Messages from Actinic

The mobile world is set to expand big time this year in terms of mobile payments and ecommerce generally so it would be nice to have a text facility so that people can enter thier mobile number at checkout in order to get texts updates on thier order.

In order processing then there would be the option to send a text message such as order shipped etc

I'd be up for this, for sure. I love my sms updates from Ocado telling me that my order is arriving in Rhubarb van delivered by Piotr and there are no substitutes.

Definite one for me.
I was playing about with some third party email-to-sms and sms-to-email services.
These could be probably be adapted to work with Actinic at present, however an integrated solution would be more efficient.

this gets my vote however:

in order to send an sms, you'd need specific gateways and technology.

Actinic would have to strike a deal with an sms provider, and you'd need an account with them, to send sms.

it'd be very good if this feature were included, but its complexity means a 3rd party developer would ahve to step in, if anyone wanted this feature anytime soon.

your best bet, would be to get yourself a sony erricson phone, and a copy of floats mobile agent, and send the sms yourself. in this software, sms are arranged like emails, and can be easily managed. you could copy and paste responses from a notepad, to make your task easier.

it keeps logs and the such.

i'm sure with a little scripting, it could be automated, since floats supports scripting, and can access a database for various features, nameld the actinic database.

the best part is that you'd be able to sign up to a mobile provider, for unlimited texts, for example, the o2 unlimited bolt on, and it'd not cost you the earth when your sms sending habbit gets out of hand.

saying that however, i think it'd be trivial to write a plugin for Actinet that interfaces with these chaps:

Interesting. So you could have a field in checkout which feeds to a custom email to be sent to clicktell and so send the text.

The number would need converting to international format and order processing modified to allow two emails to be sent when the order was processes or check to see if the mobile number was entered on preference to email.

This would be easy for actinic to include as a standard feature IMO and would generate repeat sales. It could be setup simply in the same way the postcode lookup is used.

Actually, I have experimented with this in the past. Used a freebie online thingy and c&p'd the number into an already drafted message.
