    templates for network settings

If you set up a number of actinic sites on the same hosting, it would be nice to be able to select a generic template so I'd only need to amend the domain name.

Failing that, the ability to access the network settings of other sites within the same actinic installation without having to close the current site and open the old one, export the settings, go back into the new one and import.

What's stopping you having a generic set of settings in a notepad file on your PC and just importing that as and when you need? You have the import and export facility already.

Maybe Actinic could automatically save the network settings to a text file when changed.

      This way:

      - The settings are there handy for support / forum.
      - They could be quickly imported into a new site.

I have to admit that all it really achieves is saving someone the effort of exporting the network settings themselves. Unlikely to be a priority in my view.

PS. I've never imported a set of network settings. Presumably Actinic can import the settings from a directory other than the default?

Nothing stopping me (except my own disorganisation) but it does feel rather like a hack. True, this is only a 'would be nice to have', but I think it would lend a bit of professionalism to the process.

Yes, you can browse for the settings file which is saved as plain text. Perhaps not have actinic export the ftp password as default - maybe have to tick a checkbox to get the password out in plaintext.

A hack? seriously lol as opposed to what, be being completely disorganised. If you sign up to an actinic host, they usually provide you with a text file with the settings within, you just import that, takes about 4 seconds. In 10 seconds you could have done an export and saved a file somewhere safe yourself. Web > network setup > export - networkSettings.txt - OK

I fail to see how that is a hack in any form, sounds very well organised to me. Why not spend 10 seconds now and do an export yourself, job done then. This wishlist item will never happen, so time to do something yourself in this area.

Personally i would like to see these settings encrypted in some way, having your ftp setting in plain text is not really good practice these days

You can create your own template, as has almost been described already.

              1) Export the network settings from an existing site (Web | Network Setup | Export)
              2) Open the exported file in Notepad and delete the values against the FTP fields (FTPUSERNAME, FTPPASSWORD, and maybe FTPHOST, depending on the type of hosting you use and whether the latter is different for each site).
              3) Save the file

Then all you need to do is import the file each time (Web | Network Setup | Import) and add the FTP Details for the new site

It's not really a hack, it's meant to work like that.
