    Addon store.

Actinic needs an addon / plugin store where all developers can submit their offerings and Actinic can take a cut for running it.

I write very useful things every couple of weeks that people would greatly benefit from. I'd be willing to put them up for a tiny amount on an app store of some kind and i'm quite happy for you to take a percentage actinic. The poblem is i dont have the time to market it and host it and process payments and blah-blah. i'm too busy making useful things.

Is there anything like this in the pipeline?

I like the idea. It would be useful if actinic had a section for useful add-ins and tools where it'd be hard to justify putting them up on a website of their own. Could even be used for selling ebooks on things like 'SEO tips for Actinic' etc.

Of course the question of support then raises it's head but there could be a separate forum section for this with contact via PMs where needed.

      Actinic Marketplace ?

Does Gabe mean a one-stop online store where the products are digital downloads of software patches? Shouldn't be too difficult (if only I had the time)!

But I imagine that Norman, Fergus et al wouldn't necessarily join in, so it would only be Gabe's work on offer. I could* offer hosting, a domain (tba) and payment processing in return for a percentage, but I couldn't offer support so Gabe would still need to be involved.

      * Didn't say I was going to, though!

This has been discussed in the past as possibly being a forum section on the community. Not as a platform to purchase but more likely to promote add-ons etc. I think it is still being considered in this manner by Actinic.

I'm not convinced that selling add-ons from various creators on one site is such a good idea as it brings up issues regarding support, refunds, liabilities etc.

Most people wishing to sell add-ons have at least a Paypal account to take payments so I don't think the ability to offer payment services will be of great benefit.

This just goes to show how little point there is having forum sections so far down the page. It's been there for two weeks and I've never noticed it before.

I think Gabe would like to see a store where things can be sold though. I think it's unlikely to happen under Actinic, at least for the moment.

Nice to see the forum section is there though.

Don't worry Paul, You're not invisible. I did see your original post and followed the link. I was surprised to the other posts repeating what you'd already highlighted.

I didn't notice it was a link, thought it was a title until later.

Doh! Excuses, excuses, both of you. I'll put it in BOLD next time!

PS In keeping with the current & prevalent trend, can you change my username to my proper name, like you and Mike have? Ta.

It no longer seems relevant having my car reg. no. as a forum name.

                          Confession - so did I!

It did sound like Duncan was mentioning ongoing discussion (at Actinic) about something they'd already done and seemed as though he wasn't aware of it which is why I posted a(nother) link

Actinic also lacks some sort of universal installer.

                            With a file extension. 'plugin.act'

I'm just tired of writing loads of technical instructions to install a simple mod. There are so many ways it can go wrong. I'd rather write something like: 'press browse on the installer and choose the plugin'.

There are other shops that do this. Other market places, i even sell plugins on them. I cannot cite them as examples, i will be deleted or banned.

Pipe-dreams i'm afraid. Ones i've had so many times before.

Perhaps i should invent an installer that deals with the database... an api that deals with it in actinic.... and a smart template engine that inserts the plugins into the templates. I'd be on forever tying it all together... and then the support for it would be a nightmare for little old me.

I fear the profits may be big pants too. lol.
