Using Sellerdeck Desktop with Microsoft OneDrive

If you have Sellerdeck Desktop installed on a PC that uses Microsoft OneDrive for online backup, and both are installed with the default settings, then you may find that Sellerdeck Desktop is unable to find your site.

By default, Sellerdeck Desktop stores your 'Sites' within a 'Documents' folder – either your personal folder or the general Documents folder, depending whether you installed the software for ‘All Users’ or just the ‘Current User’. The Sites folder is inside a subdirectory named for your current Sellerdeck version, eg “Sellerdeck v18”.

Also by default, OneDrive moves your personal Documents folder into the OneDrive folder. In this case Sellerdeck Desktop will no longer be able to find the Sites folder, and will create a new one containing the default example site.

There are two solutions to this.

    1. If you do not want OneDrive to backup your Documents folder, you can disable this as follows:
    a. Click the OneDrive icon in your system tray
    b. Click the ‘Help & Settings’ cogwheel at the top right of the OneDrive window and select ‘Settings’
    c. Click ‘Manage back up’ and untick ‘Documents’
    d. Click ‘Start back up’

Be aware that a Windows or OneDrive update may change this setting back to the OneDrive default, causing the folder to be moved.

    2. If you do want OneDrive to backup your Documents folder, then you need to relocate your Sites folder as follows:
    a. Copy the Sites folder to a folder that is not backed up by OneDrive
    b. Open Sellerdeck Desktop and select ‘Sites’ from the ‘File’ menu
    c. Click ‘Sites Directory’
    d. Click Browse, browse to the new Sites folder and select it
    e. Click ‘OK’, ‘OK’ again and ‘Done’

When you are happy with the change, move the old Sites folder to the Recycle Bin.
