    V9.0.5 JHZA syncronization server problems

I was wonderering if anyone had any ideas on the sync server problems we seem to be having. Whilst I was on holiday one of our sites was published to change some of out of stock situations. A mssg appreared which said something to do with payment services being updated (I'm sorry I can't be more specific as the mssg wasn't noted down.) Since then our second maching can't log onto actinic (the update was undertaken from the second machine). When you try to log in it gives the standard 'can't log onto the sync server' mssg.

    I have tried the following:

Converted to standalone and re-shared the data. If I do this in any of our other sites it works fine. If i do it in the site that was uploaded it fails and says can't connect to sync server. I don't understand enough about it to know why it would be on this one site. If I do it in any of the other sites it all works fine and it doesn't crash. It will not let the other computer log on though.

I have taken the snapshop of the site previous to the upload and tried with this but the problem is still the same.

I have checked the sync server is running on the main machine and all is fine.

I have taken the whole network down and restarted in case the IP's had got their knickers in a twist but this hasn't solved it either.

I have checked that the IP address in each site within the sync server set up is the same, as I have had this issue before, and they are all the same.

I have checked the firewall logs and they are not blocking access to the sync server or actinic across our network.

I have compacted all the databases.

I can't think of anything else to try. The second machine is trying to log onto the site that had the mssg about payment services. Is there anyway I can change the site it's trying to log onto to see if it is just this site that is causing a problem. Perhaps I could then take a snapshot delete that site and create again using the snapshot? I assume I can't do that now as the other machine would really get upset as it would try to log onto a site that no longer existed?

Can anyone suggest anything else to try?

    TIA

If you go to settings / sync server try entering a number for the machine which has the sync server rather than a computer name i.e. 123.23.432.11 not grannys old computer

Are you turning on the syn server computer first

      Hi Chris

Thanks for coming back to me.

I've set it to use IP addresses and made sure each site has the same IP address in it. And yes the main machine goes on first.

It's so frustrating as it limits what we can do at any one time. But I can't see what else to do?

How about trying to turn the duff machine on first, it should the come up with sync server not found do you want to use local sync

If you say yes then when running turn on the master computer
Turn off the slave then on again, it might then find the main sync

just a wild guess with no technical reasons but it might get out of the loop, by making it use another computers sync ( its own)

Good luck as nobody else seems to have an idea

Cheers Chris I'll have a look at that tomorrow and report back. It's a shame you can't select or change which site you log onto rather than having to go into the one you were in last. I'm sure something has happened with that one site but can't work out what it is.

Thanks again for your help. D

            Chris, thank you so much.

I turned the slave on without the main machine. It didn't look for a local sync server but it brought up the box you get when you are connecting the second machine to the first and ask for the database location. I renavigated to the directory and then turned the main machine on. It wasn't completely happy at that point so I then took the whole network down again (!) brought it back up and then the slave machine asked to connect to the main machine. It then allowed me to select a different site and opened up. I've logged onto to each site, even the unhappy one and all seems fine now. Really don't know what caused the problem or how this fixed it but it did I wouldn't have even thought of doing it that way round so thanks so much for taking the time, really appreciated.

You can - look in Actinic Main Help for 'Command Line'.

The one you want will be '/s'.

We put the command line into a desktop icon for each site; if one doesn't work just try another.

                  Hi Paul
Thanks, I'll look into that as I do think that being able to log onto a different site will solve lots of problems.

We thought we'd wait till Oct time when were through our busy season but I've had a look at the checkout and it looks much improved on the alternative delivery address section. But then the conference mentions v11 ...

Is the sync server improved in v10 as this does my head in!!
