Working from Home - Actinic Business & Actinic EPOS Network

Hi,

Just upgraded from Catalog to Business and purchased EPOS Network. The upgrade from Catalog to Business went fine (not half as many problems I had as when going from V7 to V8.....phew!!) but I'm totally new to EPOS Network.

I'm intending to set-up the EPOS Network system next week sometime but have a question I would like to ask. Please excuse me if this comes across very newbie

At the moment I work from home with Business and the orders are downloaded and dispatched from our premises a few miles away. Obviously the EPOS system will be installed at the shop premises but I'm wondering if I can continue to work from home and update the EPOS Network system from home?

So I guess the above is a no go? So am I right in thinking it'll be a back-up at home send the file and get someone to import it at the shop end?

Hi Bun,

If orders come in via Business you can set up the EPOS Link to communicate with the shop till and allocate stock etc. Have you set up the EPOS Link on your Business software?

Also what EPOS license did you purchase off us?

I'm due to set it up later this week. I have business running at the shop at the moment (the orders are downloaded there) and I also have Business running at home where I design and upload the site from.

I was just after being able to get at EPOS from home so I could put product information, barcodes....etc.

From my understanding it looks like I'll have to save the EPOS file at home send it to the shop were they'll be able to import it?

Morning,

Yes import/export files are the best option.

Data | Make Branch Update File

- Include only the products and related data e.g.(barcodes/suppliers/categories/etc).

Don’t include transactional data (uncheck them on the Settings tab of the Make Update File window)

Email the file over and on the till:

Data | Import Branch Update File
- import the file, the related data will be updated

Okay.....so now I have the EPOS system set up in the shop (set it up yesterday and everything seems to be fine) there's also a copy of Business set up there to recieve the orders. I'm also working from home with Business where I'm doing all the site design, products.....etc.

I'm intending to have the stock control managed from the EPOS system in the shop and use Actinic link to update stock on the site.....the only problem being is that I'm a few miles away from the shop here at home

Am I right in thinking that EPOS Link will only work on a network of computers therefore not updating the stock on Business running at home here with me?

If anyone else is working like I am I'd appreciate your comments

Thank you for that.....it sounds very interesting and certainly something that would help in my situation. Has there been any issues of security with systems like these?

I am in the process of checking with our development team if EPOS link will work ok through a VPN.

I will keep you updated with any further information I recieve.
