Install EPOS on PC with c:checkout present

    Hi,

We have a PC which we use to store our EPOS databases and EPOS link in the c:checkout folder. We then have 2 tills which point to the databases on EPOS database PC.

We would now like to install EPOS onto the PC which we currently use to hold our EPOS databases. My question is, will the installation of EPOS overwrite the databases which we currently have and, if so, is there a safe way of installing EPOS on to a PC which already has the EPOS databases in the checkout folder?

    Thank you.

Install EPOS on PC with c:checkout present

    Hi,

Yes a new installation of Epos would overwrite the database files so what you’d need to do is:

    1. Make sure it’s not “Windows Server” operating system that you wish to install Epos onto. It has to be XP or Vista.
    2. Make a note of the Database file paths in Epos /Setup | “Connect” tab.
See attachment for a photo of the DB file network paths in Epos.
    3. Create a folder on the desktop of the PC and name it “Original DB files”
    4. Copy from your C:\Checkout folder the following files and put them in the new folder you’ve just created:

    * Its very important you copy and keep these files safe as they have all your
products, prices and data on them.

    • Data.mdb
    • Order.mdb
    • Stock Movement.mdb
    • System.mdb
    • Transaction.mdb
    • Z Read.mdb

Reinstall the same version of Actinic EPOS you were using either from the CD you have, or download it again from our website. (Please note the trial version of EPOS is the same as the full version) See attached upgrade doc for this.

    EPOS 3.06:

    http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/downloads.htm

    EPOS 2.92:

    http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/versions.htm

Once EPOS is reinstalled, Double click "My Computer", browse to C:\checkout and copy all 6 databases you backed up earlier (“Original DB files”) into this folder.

Now when you open EPOS you will see EPOS has been reinstalled and all your data will be present.

If you are using EPOS network, you will have to reconnect your EPOS system(s) to the master computer in Setup | “Connect” tab. Browse to the databases of the main database PC as they were before.

    Thanks,

    Andy.
