    Promotions - EPOS 3.06

    EPOS query.

Could someone be kind enough to list the steps that I need to take to create a promotion that lets a customer get a product free if they have bought something else please?

For example I want to give away a pen if someone buys a Filofax. But if a customer buys only the pen, then he pays full price.

I'm sorry to be a pain but I just want a step-by-step list that works.

    Thanks and Happy New Year

This sounds like a bogof promotion - buy one get one free

    1. Select 'Promotions' from the Main Menu bar > Product Dbase > Promotions.
    3. Select ‘Buy-1Get-1-Free’ from the ‘Promotion Type’ drop down list box.
    4. Enter a Name for the promotion – each promotion must have a unique name.
    5. Enter the ‘Primary Product’ for this promotion, ie. the product which must be scanned to allow the promotion to be applied (the Filofax's product code)
    6. Enter the Receipt Text for the promotion ie. what you want to appear on the receipt.
    7. Give the promotion a ‘Start Date’ and ‘End Date’ if needed – if left blank the promotion will not time out.
    8. Enter the Sales Tax Code to be used for the promotion - usually 'S' - 15%
    9. Untick Promotion Suspended.
    10. In ‘Quantity' box enter the Quantity of the ‘Primary Product’ needed to be scanned to trigger the promotion (1 in this case) , and in 'Retail' enter the ‘discount’ to be applied (the price of the pen).
    11. Once these details have been entered Click the ‘Save’ button to save the promotion.
    12. You now need to attach the Pen to this promotion. Products attached to the promotion appear in the window at the bottom of the Promotions form.
    13. Select the ‘Products’ button – this will display the Main Product form.
    14. Search for the required product to be added to this promotion (the pen ). Use the ‘Promotion’ drop down box on the Product form to select the above Promotion's name from the list.
    15. This product should now be attached to this promotion.

    Hope this helps....

      Hi ChickenGeorge

Thanks but for the thought but I think you've cut and pasted the user manual rather than given me the benefit of your experience. You see on my screen I've no step 9. to untick "Promotion Suspended". In fact I have a check box asking the opposite. I can't remember the exact wording as I'm not at the shop right now.

I have tried the above but for the life of me cannot make a BOGOF work.

      Thanks anyway.

        Promotions - EPOS 3.06

        Hi Nick,

If you look within the Actinic Knowledge Base you will find clear instructions on how to set up a ‘buy one get from free’ promotion.

This however is based on pricing so if you sell 2 of the same items, it will deduct exactly half of the 2 items. I understand that you may want to sell 1 item but give a different item away as the gift and therefore the promotion may not work for you.

There isn’t an active promotion that will do exactly what your asking however the following could be a way around it.

You could add a message to the promotion product stating that the cashier now also has to ring through the free gift item; this message will be displayed when the item is scanned. You want to keep the ‘free’ products full price if it’s selected on its own so you may want to set up a similar product specifically to be used with the promotion.

        I hope this helps.

        Thanks

        Andy

The correct way to do it would be to set up a "fixed Price deal".
Add a new promotion called "filofax and pen" and input the filofax item code as your primary item#1 and click set, save the promotion as is for now.

Then navigate to the pen in your products file and select "filofax and pen" in the promotion field - you should see a dropdown box below select item 2 here.

Now in your promotion set the price as 2 for £ (whatever the price of the filofax is)

At the Epos you should scan both items as normal and on Total the price of the pen will be deducted as a discount thus keeping your stock right.

Hope that helps - its not very intuitive or well explained in the manual but it does work, we use it for "meal deals" and "buy a shampoo get a sponge free" type of deals.

            Cheers
            Neil

I'll try it tomorrow if I can get through the snow that's threatening!

                Hi Nick,

I did have many problems with promotions at the start as I wanted quantity promotions as we run a Lighting & Electrical Wholesalers. In the end we just applied discount if people bought in multiples of 10 or more.
Then I noticed a small detail in the manual that it said you should not be creating a promo while the product screen is open (we always did it with the product screen open in the background).
I have only tried it once but when I created a promo with the Product Screen closed the promo did work.
                I hope that may help?

                Paul
                Kind regards

                  Hi All
The solution above that Neil P suggested works well for us. Follow his instructions closely and you too can offer Buy One Get One Free promotions!

                  Thanks Neil.

                  PS I'm using version 3.07

                  All the best
