    epos for weight based products

hi, just been having a play around with demo of epos.
Having a headache trying to find an epos system that can do what we want.

We sell confectionery in an old sweet shop, over 500 jars of sweets

each jar has a barcode, so in theory we could scan a bar code for each sale

    this is our set up
we weight the sweet on a scale, say 100grams of cola cubes
type this into a manuel til
    hay presto job done
problem is no stock control or figures to look at

    what we would like
scan barcode on side of jar, the scales say sell at 95p, can we enter 95p in epos system.
The price of each sweet bag varies every sale, it might be 95p 98p or 99p depending on weight. IS there a way to enter a variable price in epos.

    Hope this all makes sense.
There must be an epos system for weight based products like fruit and veg, confectionery etc.
    thanks

With our shop we have some weight based products (beads by the gram). In the system we have the sell price listed as the cost price. We ring one quantity of the item and then we go back in and change the price of the item (two options permanent or temp) temporarily to what they will be charged. To 'change the price' it is a menu option on the sales screen. this probably messes up margins but then again many of our data is wrong
This would be quite a cumbersome process as there are many 'clicks' just to ring one item.

You could possibly create different sales type buttons (there is one for cash on the sales screen) and then when the you select it a window will pop up with the cost you want to charge. limited in the number but you might do this by category or groupings.

another option would be to see if a plugin could be developed for you so that each time the item is entered, a window pops up asking for the price you will be charging. Mole End is one company. perhaps they may have time and the skill to create it.

what it needs is a 'tare' facility for weight based items.
I have found something called g-pos that does this, if Actinic is reading this then I am not trying to promote another product, maybe you could take a look at it and see if if it is possible to add in to a future update.

        Re selling by Weight

I have previously put in a development reqeust for this function - have to wait and see!

It's more complicated to get scales setup as the entire system, hardware & software, have to be certified by Trading Standards - so a complete system would have to be purchased rather than the current option to put epos on your own PC etc.

Most of our shop is weight sold and stock control is a nightmare. If you look at the wish list thread you will see options I've suggested that might be a workaround.

There are systems available that are designed for selling goods by weight and can even do predictive ordering based on previous sales - I hope Actinic catch up with them soon.

You can enter a seperate price for each item. There is check box for "Collect price at scanning" against each product. So if you sell a Mars Bar you just scan it - if you sell cola cubes loose then when you scan it a "pop-up screen" appears allowing you to enter the price.

The deficiency with Actinic is the stock control - it sees each sale a one item and reduces the stock control accordingly. Obviously if you have a 275 kg jar of cola cubes which are sold in multiples of 100g the your stock per jar would be 27.5. This is where the problem arises - firstly you can't have any decimal points in stock so you have to round it up or down, secondly is someone buys 125g or 376g or whatever of cola cubes, then actinic still views this as 1 unit in terms of a sale.

Having said that, and as much as I'd like to stock control/re-ordering of most of the loose products we sell, our sweets are sold as pick'n'mix and to my knowlede no system yet can count how chocolate brazils and midget gems someone has selected.

pic and mix is a dirty word in our shop!

Actinic has no decimal points, as you say, so it is no good for us.

Been looking at some stock programs and they all seem capable of using 0.5 if need be.

Actinc must catch up if it wants to be a player!
