Design view clicking in Page Preview no longer works

I used to be able to click on items in the page preview in the design tab to see what layout was ben used by the item i clicked on, but for some reason this functionality has disappeared! I don't recall changing anything to make this happen, but i've started the software today and i can no longer click anything in this view. Any ideas how i can restore it without restoring a snapshot?

It seems you had the same issue last year, is there some code you need to add again? see: Can No Longer Select Elements In Design View. Also you could try this one: cant click layouts in design view

Nicola is no longer running the site, I (Oliver) took over in December so i wasn't aware she'd experienced this before but i'll try some of those solutions. Thanks for the help!
