    Accounts and delivery address

    Hi all,

    Is it possible to set up sellerdeck so that new customers can only use their invoice address on first order ? Im not sure how many sellerdeck users insist on this but I always thought it was a risk not doing so.

    Also, Is there a way of allowing registered customers to log in and unregistered customers having to use the create account form ? Or blocking new customers from using the cart until they have used the account form ?

    What im trying to do is protect myself from fraud and timewasters as much as possible.

    Thanks,

    Michael
    Kind regards,

    Michael

    You can make your catalog available to account customers only by un-ticking the "Allow orders from unregistered customers" option in business settings / ordering.

      Thanks Jan,

      The trouble with that option is that new customers dont go to a register account form and have to use the contact us form. I want new customers to go to a proper register account form with capcha and postcode lookup.

      Unless ive missed something.

      Thanks
      Kind regards,

      Michael

        Hi,

        Sorry I sort of assumed it would offer the chance to sign up for an account. One for the wish list then perhaps unless you can do it from the design tab.

          I suppose my question should be:

          How many users are using the 'contact us' form for successful account sign up's.

          Its a shame sellerdeck does not offer this, all the features are in the software but not used for an account opening form, unless its done on first order. Many of my customers would want to sign up for an online account but not order straight away.

          Thanks
          Kind regards,

            As far as I know, there's no straightforward way to do what I think you want. We have a trade website on which only registered customers can place orders, but I've had to use Machform to capture the details I needed for each customer, and set the account up manually, then email the customer their log-in details.
            If there were a way to allow a customer to set an account up without placing an order (perhaps with some authorisation requirement from the site owner before the account could be used) I think it would be a great addition.

              Just a thought but could you work around it by creating a product called 'new account' and using that as a way to trigger an online account without an actual purchase order having to be made?

                Thanks for the advice.

                Theres no way to access sellerdecks built in form unless the customer is placing an order. Looks like im stuck with the contact us form which doesnt make use of postcode anywhere.

                Im quite surprised, after all these years this still has not been implemented.

                The other thing would be to have an option where the new customer cannot choose a different delivery address on their first order.

                  I think this should be added to this wishlist along with blocking new customers from selecting a different delivery address for their first order.

                    Thanks for the suggestions. We have an existing item on the wish list for creating an account without placing an order. I have added your requests to that, and added a new item for preventing separate delivery address on the first order.

                      I would like to see a cleaner / clearer check out area, like this (see attached current design and alternative).

                      I need to see if I can some make the current layout similar to the other.

                      Making accounts, most of the time it is fine, however, some times people want to collect items which we allow to save delivery. To do that we would put them on a collect only account, to generate that, it is a back office procedure. I am looking at having a collect product you can order which enables us to set up the account and put the account on the right account group. So there is a collect product, zero value they can order without payment, we can then process that account to change it group.

                      I am rambling as it is late, better account generation and a clear first check out page would be all good.

                      Thanks M

                        I think that's fine if you want to insist on every customer having an account and there's a good business reason for that.

                        Unfortunately, you will lose customers who don't want to create yet another account and remember yet another password. I'm personally one of those buyers who simply quits sites that force me to create an account, and I know that I'm not alone.

                        This isn't to say that SellerDeck shouldn't allow independent account creation, it's just placing it in context.

                          This version of SD is the first time we started using accounts, mostly so people can review their order and we taking the position that you can create account if you like or not, we are happy either way.

                          However, I think we are losing customers because we are offering accounts and it is little confusing. I needed to look at it.

                          I celebrate the flexibility that SD brings, really enjoy using it. I know over the years the check out process has been worked on and improved. Which is great.

                          Anyway I think I need to do some work on that area, critically doesn't mattered what I think, it is our site users which are critical.

                          I was try to be positive and constructive regarding the checkout area.

                            Thanks Derrick, I wasn't meaning to be critical either. I agree that we do need a stand-alone account creation facility.

                              If you're comfortable working with SellerDeck layouts and HTML, you can actually put the login form into the first page of the checkout and it will work there. However you can't put it in the same place as the current Login button because that creates a nested form - which is the reason we couldn't do it in the first place. You have to put it above the existing form, ie above the cart contents. I realise that's not the best position on the page, but it does work there, and for your particular purpose you might prefer it.

                              If you want to try it, just paste the following code below the 'Checkout Progress Indicator' in the 'Order 00 Bulk Area' layout:
                              <Actinic:NOTINB2B>
                              <actinic:variable name="LoginPageInnerLayout" />
                              </Actinic:NOTINB2B>
