    Rich Snippets

    Hi.

    Am a bit confused over Rich Snippets.
    I am considering adding rich snippet code for product name, price etc. I have seen posts on how to do this but I am concerned over the description snippet....How does this work together with the meta description tag. If I use both will Google treat this as a duplication. Will they choose the snippet over the meta tag to display. Will it improve rankings....?

    Also, how quick are snippets updated by Google - price and stock being the obvious here.

    Bear in mind that I hadn't a clue about snippets until an hour ago and my brain now hurts.

    I am assuming that Sellerdeck doesn't offer any automation over this??

    You are confusing descriptions. The meta description shown in the <head> of the page and entered at the Section Level in SellerDeck describes the whole page. This appears only once. Your meta description should not be the same as the product description regardless of using rich snippets or not but a variation of keywords.

    Rich Snippets relates to a specific item (product) on that page and can appear several times if you have multiple products on a page. You need to wrap your ProductDescription layout into a <span> tag using

    Code:
     itemprop="description"

      To answer your question - yes - they will help in rankings and well worth the 15 mins required to set them up. Like most things they add a small drop into the overall blend of SEO.

      They are not globally used but becoming more widely implemented so best to be ahead of the game

        Excellent!

        Thank you for clarifying this. This really does help. My next question on canonical links has already been answered on the forum today so I will sleep more easily this weekend!

        Cheers,
