Custom Variable in Search Results

I have a sale ribbon that can be placed over an image just by changing a filter to true, which also moves it into a filtered sale page.

Now I can get the ribbon on to the search results, but it is either on everything, or nothing and certainly not working with a blockif referencing to the true or false of my filter in order to just show on sale items.

The problem I am sure is that the filter simply won't work on the search results.

So the question is, is there any other variable that is known to work in search results that I could copy and modify?
