I don't think 12 months is enough for some customers
Getting more and more difficult for online retailers to make a profit - I particularly feel for the clothing sector - what a nightmare in returns they must face.
Well we have offered 14 days instead of 7 since day one in 2003, we find about 2.5% of ladies need exchanges and a very small number of gents, Cancellations are minimal.
We do try and show true size guides to all, but often the customer has no reals idea of their size meaning two dress size jumps are quite common on the exchanges
Only think they object to is the second postage which is understandable, but not much we can do about it although we do make a small reduction as a sign of good faith on the second one
I doubt if the change from 7 days to 14 days return will have much impact. At least for sellers of products that have a long shelf life.
I'm pretty sure all the studies have shown that the longer the cancellation period the fewer the number of returns. In a nutshell, the majority of customers have a tendency to let things drift rather than do things immediately and the more time goes by, the more they get accustomed to the situation and the less inclined to do anything about it.
I already offer a 30 day money back period so to me it has no impact.
The ability for clothing sellers to reduce the refund for usage / wearing seems to be a positive step.
