Help on setting up SSL for checkout pages only

I was wondering if anyone can help me regarding this? We use Sagepay and Paypal to take payments on our website so that part of the checkout is secure and keeps us PCI compliant but I am considering adding SSL to our checkout pages for taking name and address details to increase consumer confidence in the site

I have contacted my hosting provider who says he can provide SSL for us but he asked me if it was my entire domain that i want SSL for or is it a sub domain (which don't have at present). I can see that in Sellerdeck I can select a box to say use SSL for the checkout pages only. Do I just get the hosting company to set up SSL for my normal domain and then tick this box? Just don't want them to set it up wrong in the first place and then not be able to change it??

    Thanks.

    Yes.

You set up SSL for the whole domain. the Sellereck box 'use SSL for checkout pages only' means that the only links on the site to the SSL secured pages will for the checkout.

Two things to be aware of:

    1. Google (and possibly other search engines) seem to have taken a liking to linkink to the SSL version of a page where it exists. Presumably as a response to all the privacy / snooping revelations. There is some code on the forum for a robots.txt file (IIRC) to stop them doing this.

    2. Make sure you get the SSL certificate for the right domain. If you use www.yourdomain.com then make sure the certificate is for the www. version.
