Missing variables in Online Emails - are there workarounds?

I am flabbergasted that the following cannot be put in the online emails:

- payment type chosen
- content of comments box

Is there an extension, hack, or module to add these? I have a support contract but what I was told was, in essence "tough luck"

Thanks - I will try that one! Hadn't seen that subforum

The special delivery instructions are now in by standard, but I find that some people still "miss" them at the address entry stage in checkout and leave their instructions in as comments on the last step. Which does not get sent to the team via email, only appears in the (location bound!) sellerdeck instance.

The solution to that is also in that knowledge base sub forum, under "general information fields"

Shame that this hack does not allow us to have an "if" around the whole block (only show if field filled). You'd think that since 2009 this would have been made more robust...
