    Performance Issues

Does any have any performance issues on 2013?

I am currently finding the program randomly hangs on certain actions:

#1 : Printing reports (Packing List, Data Entry or Invoice)
#2 : Downloading orders sometimes hangs.

When it hangs, we get the "program not responding".
If you wait and not interfere (don't let windows offer to end the program), it does the job after 2 minutes wait...

I suspect it might be windows UAC or your real time anti-virus system getting in the way.

The only way to be sure is to try disabling it / them and seeing if things improve.

It's also worth making sure Actinic is marked as a trusted program in your anti-virus.

This happens to me on occasion on different sites across different versions of SellerDeck.... from what I can see as some sort of a trend ...

      1. large database (products and old orders)
      2. large number of user defined variables at product level

In later versions with product filtering this does become more noticeable as each variable even if set to (=Use Parent) adds a new database field for each and every product ... so a large product database with a dozen or so variables soon bloats the database very quickly.

There may also be a time when say Carbonite is running a backup on the site files but that is very rarely.

You PC specification could be an issue as well as other programs running in the background (software updates, backups, PhotoShop, web browsers etc) .. try closing unnecessary programs as see if that helps.

        Thanks Mike for the suggestions.

        My PC has :
        UAC = Never Notify
        AV = Exclusions for Sellerdeck

        See images.

Is there anything more I should be doing?

          Hi John,

We have issues with a site that has a lot of orders, but this problem is also happening with simple sites with not so many orders...

          During another troubleshoot,
I have already set the server to not have shadow copies on the site data folder and also removed the 11am backup that was default on the server.

We are on Multi-user, so the network might not be as quick as a standalone installation.
The PC's are all i5's with SSD's and plenty of memory. 1 on Win7 and others on Win8.1

          On the printing:
I found that printing 2 orders caused a hang that lasted too long, but end-task and printing 1 at a time seem to have a hang ~30 seconds.

I also found that sometimes it is all good, but it only hangs on that first print of the day.
          - I have another user that tries to print, complains and then walks away, then a few minutes later I hear the printer comes to life...

I am looking into product filtering - maybe I might see an end to so many duplicate items on our site, but after reading your post, I'm a bit hesitant - it's already bad, enabling it might make things worse...

          This only happens with Sellerdeck.
All our other programs runs fine (including our 5 user Accounting Software)...

            A thought...
Should I exclude the sites folder from the AV?
            - seems more dangerous as the files are uploaded from there to our site.

Excluding the site should be OK so long as the rest of the network is protected - most virus / malware come via emails, surfing or loaded on flash sticks so excluding a specific folder once verified free should be OK. You can always set up a manual scan of the folder to be done "off peak"

I have not tried product filtering on a multi-user installation ... maybe someone can comment on the difference (if any) it made before and after filtering was enabled.

Could that just be the printer waking up if on eco/sleep mode overnight and needs time to warm up?

My network laser sleeps overnight and the first print is always a chore while it warms up and sorts itself out

                      I'm not sure about that.

I recently saw a thread called "site compromised"... I never imagined that could happen.

I would have thought the sites folder would be a primary target to infect...

Also, on my machine, I print to fax, then preview the fax and print to printer...
                          - something I do now after a problem with v10 on Win7 crashing on printing to PDF... so I print to fax, then fax to PDF...

It happening on other users who are printing direct to printer, so it's not the print device

I recall that being the remote server being infected and not the local PC. The local PC site folders would not be on anyones radar as the software is not that widely used ... hackers target known software vulnerabilities on common software (windows, word, PHP, SQL etc) as that will generate the most returns ... it is akin to a mugger only targeting people called Steve Biggleswade Malinosky .... they may be some in the world but better to target John Smith as there are more of them around so a higher chance of getting a return.

                              Always had similar

I have always experienced, through many versions of Sellerdeck/Actinic, a rare and random crash when printing a data sheet. No explanation, no particular time of day.

When uploading or downloading I sometimes get a error message, in most cases I find that the internet connection had briefly dropped out. I open a web page (BBC News), click to check the connection, fixes itself, click to get rid of error box, and away we go again.

I also have random delays when publishing to web, seems to stick at a particular point, wait a few minutes, and then it continues. This has got worse with more products, filters, etc.
