Restricting shipping

Is there a way to actual prevent shipping ofa product to certain locations?

We sell some product which are only licensed for sale in the EU and would like to make it impossible to buy them outside this area.

As we use weight one answer would be to give a big weight and then charge a very high value for this but wonder if there are any other suggestions.

If we did the above would it be possible to create a message in the checkout saying - "as you live outside the EU we cannot ship one or more of the items" or similar?

Yes... a big weight...

I would try this:

There are two weights in the Product >Details:
"Weight in kg" and "Alternative Weight"

For those non-EU countries, use the "Alternative Weight" on the product
(items not for sale in the non-EU = a BIG weight),
and in the shipping table for non-EU countries use the "Basis" = "Alternative Weight"
