Shipping Categories, I am so confused.

    Hi all,

Im trying to set up a new shipping category which will work on weight of the order. I have 1 existing category which is courier flat fixed charge but, I cannot seem to stop the new category from inheriting the flat fixed courier charge and then not allow me to change / delete it.

Hopefully im doing something stupidly wrong which is really simple to fix, i hope. ?

Also, shipping and handling pop up section in SD now crashing a lot, hanging and not letting me select ok to close the window.

    Michael

edit: Also can anyone tell me where I set "Shipping from Associated Product" ?
Either I need new glasses or the option is just not there.

If its a permutation option, i dont have it.

I can choose 'tax from associated product' so I assume the above is missing ?

Further edit: I have just returned my shipping to how it has been (working properly) for the last year and the shipping pop up in SD is crashing and will not let me press ok to close it. Is this a bug ?

If i set a product to use just 1 shipping category, why do all shipping categories show up as options in the cart for that product ?

    Using SD 2013

    Michael

      Sorry Michael,

If i had any idea what was causing your problem I'd say so but I haven't experienced the same things you are.

If Sellerdeck starts crashing due to settings then it's always worth compacting and repairing the database.

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure that there's nothing in your existing postage settings that might break an attempt to set up alternatives. i.e. you might need to select 'zone & class' rather than 'simple' etc in the shipping configuration settings.

        Thanks for your reply Mike,

Ive got a horrible feeling sellerdeck will not let me do what I am trying to achieve.
        2 completely Separate shipping categories:

1: Fixed fee courier - applied only to my products / services that I cannot weigh.
2: Weight calculation - applied only to my new products which I can weigh.

Ive just tried submitting a support ticket but it appears you have to have some sort of account now ?
        Kind regards,

        Michael

          That part is easy. IIRC.

Just set your 'Fixed price courier' products to have a weight of 0 and then create a shipping class with a maximum weight of 1g and tick the box marked 'Don't allow excess'.

Then all your fixed price courier products will come up with that option and anything else with an actual weight will fall into the other class.

This does mean that any orders with both product types will fall into the weight based shipping category. You can always switch around the weight options to change this if needed.

          Mike

EDIT: or you could do the same thing with just the one shipping class if you don't want them called different things.

            Thanks loads Mike,

I have started again, just created the courier category and set all the relevant products (actually services) to use that shipping category. Tested it and it works, then tested the weighed products and they have a shipping charge of £0.00 which is correct because I haven't set it yet.

Just about to export / save.

Then create the category for the weighed products, upload and test.

Im not too bothered if there is a problem when someone orders both types of products, as our service based products involve 'approval' by us and the order then turns into old fashioned phone calls and emails and the process of ordering our services nearly always goes to emails and calls, i can then inform of shipping costs personally.

            Fingers crossed.....

            Michael

It doesnt appear to want to let me have 2 different categories both using 2 different types of weight calculation.

For the products i can weigh, i need several options of shipping available to the customer, 1st class, recorded, special, parcelforce etc etc

Im trying all kinds of settings and its just not happening.

The software does not seem to want to apply weight calculation to basis of 'category based
              shipping' ?

To try and simplify further I need:

Category 1 "courier ukmail" fixed price any weight. And apply that category to certain products.

Category 2 "Other shipping" based on weight, lots of options. And apply that to certain products.

I might name them something else but, thats not important for now as i havent even started to weigh stock yet !

Im going to attach a screenshot:

                It's really very simple.

Forget categories. What you want are different classes of shipping within your shipping zone.

Then you use the weight setting for each class to set whether that class is available for the different products.

image attached. In this case I use weights assigned to products to specify whether they can go by Large Letter, Parcel or need a courier.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I thought I had to use categories whether I liked it or not, hence the mass confusion.

                  About to test now.

Edit: no point in testing yet, as per my other post in the V10 forum i am stuck with a missing category in permutations, this has happened to me before and i cannot remember how i fixed it.
                  Kind regards,

                  Michael

Just fixed the missing permutation, its a bit of a bug, mentioned elsewhere here. Make a change and the columns jump about all over the place, thus having to reset every time.
                    Kind regards,

Many thanks for your help Mike.

Its working, although ive had to set products to 100 kg to force them to show courier only price. Probably not the right way but it works.

Is there a way of showing more than 1 postage option in the basket instead of customer having to go to checkout to see other postage options ?

                      Michael

I know now why you have your classes in order of cheapest at the top first !
You cannot re-arrange their positions once set, ive got to delete them all and start again.

                        Michael

Why does shipping not always show in the basket ?
Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not ?
