    Database Problem

    Hi
We have recently had a problem with adding a new section to our website.
Sellerdeck appeared to lock itself, upon reloading we cannot add fragments or products to the section or remove(cut) it and start again.

    We receive this error message.
'There was a problem with the database
Operation: Moving through the [Product] table where [Catalog reference] = 'A000' sorted by [nParentSectionID], [Product sequence]
    Data truncated.
Action: Contact your SellerDeck reseller or SellerDeck Support as appropriate

We are very careful in adding or making changes and has worked well for us over the years.

Is there an easy solution to this we only started to add the new section so not much in there and would like to completely remove it and start again.

    Thanks
    Duncan Jones

In my experience, "Data Truncated" invariably refers to a short-text field in the database, which stores a value that is larger than Sellerdeck's permitted limit for that field. For example, the underlying database may allow for 255 characters for a particular field, but Sellerdeck's user-interface may only allow you to type in 200 characters. If you have managed to get a value between 201 and 255 characters long into that field (via direct database access or some other means of importing/linking data possibly) then you will receive that error.

Unfortunately, the error also usually ends in a rather abrupt termination of Sellerdeck without much (or any) information about what caused it as you have experienced.

How did you add the new section that appeared to cause the problem - via the standard Sellerdeck user-interface or via another method?

If you have MS-Access, try inspecting the new section, and its products, in the database and seeing if you can see any of the short-text fields which are unusually long. Do not make any direct database amendments unless you are sure of what you are doing and have made adequate backups.

      Hi Andy
      Thanks for your response.
I know where the problem is which is in a new section we have added.
Surely if this is where the problem is we should be able to right click it to (cut) remove it.
It allows me to do this but still remains there.
We are using the Standard Sellerdeck Interface.

Like file management in Windows, 'cut' will only remove the source file when you select the target location. You will probably have to flag as deleted and purge the catalog as per Norman's post.

            Hi Norman & Andy
            Thanks for your response.
We had to flag the section as 'Deleted' and then purged as Norman suggested.
This has now removed the section so thanks.
Now when 'publishing to the web' we now receive a new error message
            Red X
'an error occurred while loading products into the tree display. Data trunkated'
Clicking 'ok' to this we then get the original error message
There was a problem with the database
Operation: Moving through the [Product] table where [Catalog reference] = 'A000' sorted by [nParentSectionID], [Product sequence]
            Data truncated.
Action: Contact your SellerDeck reseller or SellerDeck Support as appropriate
            With a further error message
            Red X
            'Data truncated'
Clicking 'ok' to this and everything seems to work ok.
Any suggestions on how to resolve the error messages?
            Thanks
            Duncan J

Have you compacted the database found under "housekeeping" try doing this twice ans sometimes the first time does not clear the fauls

                Hi Chris
We have done what you have suggested and the previous error message is still there plus we have a new error message as below.

One thing that i do not understand is the section we have removed in now no longer in the content tree but the section is still showing on our website.

'There was a problem with the database

Operation: Moving through the [Product] table where [Catalog reference] = 'A000' AND ([Status] <> 'D') AND ([nParentSectionID] IN (291,307,310,323,314,325,311,326,327,308,313,324,320,322,259,610,611,342,686,677,676,681,682,683,684,685,662,663,664,665,666,672,674,673,2,565,569,570,571,572,573,574,575,576,489,521,522,523,524,409,410,417,416,411,412,413,414,389,390,19,42,110,391,211,215,216,392,220,221,222,217,396,397,398,399,41,151,199,201,202,203,204,205,207,208,209,210,47,711)) sorted by [nParentSectionID], [Product sequence]

                Data truncated.

Action: Contact your SellerDeck reseller or SellerDeck Support as appropriate'

                Thanks

                  Hi
                  A further update.
By Purging this appears to have done something.
But is still not correct as when publishing to the web we still get the same error messages as before but when checking and sending files it 'freezes?' at 'sending base files'.

                    Hi
I was wondering if there was anyone out there who could 'dial into' our PC and take a look?
I am more than happy to pay for this.
                    Regards

                      Hi All
                      We have now resolved this.
We take a Snap Shot every evening for a very good reason.
When we are making quite a few changes in the day we take more than one.
We imported the last snapshot prior to our problem.
All is well now with the Fastlight Sellerdeck Website.
                      Thanks Everyone.
                      Regards
