Drop down product attributes

Hi there,

I'm working with a product that uses a colour attribute - of which each should be selectable from a drop-down, with a unique product code to suit.

I can't find any direct way to implement this, which is straight forward.

So to simplify:

Customer goes to product
Customer chooses variation (black or white)
Customer goes to cart
Cart shows product with colour variation
Product code viewable on invoice.

Can anyone shed light on how to do this?

Associated Products and Permutations is one way to do this. See the Help for these terms - or see Making Customer Selection Affect Price, Choice and Stock Level. This way is good if you want to keep track of the stock of both variations.

Alternatively, a simpler way would just be to include the product code into each choice's name. E.g. Black (0123456). See the Help for Basic Options.

Yes, permutations has been suggested, but I can't find a tutorial to apply this. Do you know of any links?
