Image Size - Opinion?

I can't seem to settle or decide on the best size product image for our responsive design.

Take a look at this section if you have time. Product images are originally sized 400 x 400px

Any opinion on the size i've used?

For some reason I don't like the way it looks on the desktop. I think it's because the image is too wide for the overall width you're using which makes the text content look too cramped. Better margins around the image would also help.

I suspect that limiting the image width to half the available space on the desktop might be a good idea. Maybe one of our designer friends can give some clearer advice.
