Stock on Filtered Product Layout

Does anybody know how to get the Stock message (in stock or out of stock) when using Filtered Product Layout? I have a filter on each section (not filter only) and the products come up on a section page OK, but no stock message, and the customer has to click on its to get the product's own page which says whether or not in stock - customer annoyed at this point when out of stock.

There are two layouts used in filtering, "Filtered Product Summary" for sections with Filtering and "Search Result" layout for Filtering default view or filtered results. You can copy the code <actinic:variable name="RealTimeStockDisplay" /> into Filtered Product Summary to display stock. However you can't use that in the search result layout.

Current client site uses a lot of filtering and the default summary view seems to be the search result layout. The Filtered product summary does not display at all.

Is this switchable somewhere or is there some other setting to make the filtered product summary display as the initial filtered page view?

Match layout is selected and no sub section lists are displaying
