    1 and 1

Sorry if this is the wrong place but it's starting to get on my nerves, but is anyone having issues with these lot regarding emails?

I say this because whilst I am not with 1 and 1, (UK Fast for me) I seem to get bounced back with emails being sent to 1 and 1 customers as per below

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

    enquiries@**************
    host mx01.1and1.co.uk [217.72.192.67]
SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
554-kundenserver.de (mxeue103) Nemesis ESMTP Service not available
    554-No SMTP service
    554-Bad DNS PTR resource record.

Rather than retype I've copied an explanation from here http://aplawrence.com/Blog/B961.html

You may have come to this because you've been told that you need a PTR record to avoid rejections from sites like AOL and others.

You may have thought that you can add your own PTR record. You usually cannot.

A PTR record (sometimes called a "host PTR record") is what lets someone do a "reverse" DNS lookup - that is, they have your IP address and want to know what your host/domain is. At any Unix/Linux command line, you can use "dig -x" to do a reverse lookup:
If you don't have a PTR record, and can't get one (for example because you have a dynamic address), you will want to send outgoing email through a server that does.
It's not just 1and1 that does this. It seems AOL, Hotmail and probably others are following this practice to block bulk email spammers.

I think it's probably best talk to to UK Fast and see what they suggest.

This problem can also affect 1and1 email accounts, for example I have email accounts on 1and1 servers and on UKFast servers, only the account on UKFast can send emails to a supplier in China, emails sent on 1and1 accounts bounce back. But I can send emails from my UK Fast account to my 1and1 accounts without problems.

One difficulty in sorting this is the variety of accounts on 1and1, there are shared server accounts where you could have other users on the same server who get the server IP listed as a spammer, this then affects all users on that shared server. You may think that a dedicated server will sort this but even dedicated servers can be sharing an IP with others, particularly with a host like 1and1.

Out UKFast server has its own dedicated IP and in this case we can be sure we have full use of that IP, but to get dedicated IP's is now difficult as the IP V4 address range is full.

        UPDATE 14/12/2015
I now have customers whose web sites are failing to deliver emails, the sites are based on 1and1 server and it turns out 1and1 relay server 'mrvnet.kundenserver.de' is on a number of banned lists so emails sent from SellerdDeck are being rejected.

        Code:
host mx.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk [65.20.0.49]: 522 IP REPUTATION BAD (please check for 212.227.126.200 IP address listing on reputation services)
212.227.126.200 is the IP for 'mrvnet.kundenserver.de', so now affecting all sorts of sites.

That is dead interesting. I have a dedicated (Not shared) server with UKF so I'm going to flag them with a question about this as I have no idea how to set up a PTR record

Cheers Malcolm, seriously interesting to know this

Yes I've been having this problem on and off with 1and1. At the moment the same IP address as above is being reported as "high risk" and gmail and BT email are being returned when we send order or shipping confirmations. Still suffering the delay in sending on site through their stupid anti spam delay, and this is just the last straw. One thing about 1and1 is that they truly don't give a stuff about their customers.
            Kind Regards

Agreed. I'm also seeing emails from my 1and1 hosted sites being rejected by Gmail and have had them rejected by BT in the past too.

I currently run two sites on 1and1. One uses 1and1 for sending emails and has been having problems, the other sends them via sendgrid. The sendgrid one has been working flawlessly (and without any sending delay) for over a year now so I'm going to switch the other one over as well.

It's really quite easy to do. The details are here (see post 16 onwards) http://community.sellerdeck.com/showthread.php?t=55755

Heart Internet have been suffering similar problems sending emails to Microsoft-based email accounts.

Even with a correctly configured PTR record and a dedicated IP address on the server Heart still have problems!

I've added to the Senggrid thread that Mike mentions above. See http://community.sellerdeck.com/showthread.php?t=55755 where post #28 has full details.

This includes a variable that defines the SMTP port to use and also lets it pass the Network Setup Test.
