    Order Acknowledgement Emails not received

6hrs in and getting no where fast with SD16.03. I refer to the Order Acknowledgement Emails a customer receives the second they make an order. I receive my copy but they don't. I've had this with every SD version owned and getting fed up with it. It is not my server because I have SD14 on it that works perfectly having edited the ACTINIC.pm line $nSmtpPort = 25; to port 587, but this doesn't seem to work in SD16 no matter what I do - is there any other file that needs editing please?

I do not use the SD email facility of "Order Sent" Order Received" as I do this manually, either way, testing this with my own email address does not work apart from an SMTP 4 error all the time, yet SD14 is fine

Norman, where are you ???, I need your help

If it helps, I prefer to use the TEXT email versions over HTML

Thanks for any possible help on this

    I'm a bit confused.

You initially talk about the email that is sent the second they make an order and then, later, you say that you do not use the SD email facility as you do it manually.... you also say that you've had this with every SD version owned and then say it works perfectly well on SD2014. Can you clarify those.

It's also interesting that you get your copy of the email but the customer doesn't get theirs.

      Hi yah Goz

Bad explanation, sorry. But SD14, you make an order with me, I get a copy email of the order, so does the customer

SD16.03, I get a copy email but the customer doesn't. All settings are identical

I have SD16 set for "Send Receipt Email to Customer" but I don't have SD running (Forgive me as I have no idea if this is in fact sent via my server through the CGI-Bin or SD on my computer)

Fact is, customers don't get the typical auto email when they ordered. If you went on my SD14 site (Doorentryonline.net) and made an order, you'd get an instant order acknowledgement email, do the same thing on my SD16 site (Doorentryonline.co.uk) and you wont :-(

I cannot suss this one out for love nor money

it sounds as if the outgoing smtp server on your host doesn’t like ‘relaying’ as in this case they’re typically happy to send to an ‘on domain’ email address but not to an external email address. It’s odd if V14 works though.

I guess the starting point is what happens when you run a network test?

Following on from that I’d try placing an order using your ‘on domain’ email address as the customer email to see if sellerdeck is actually sending the email or not.

I’d also look in the error log to see what messages are appearing. Sellerdeck will usually log smtp errors there.

The other ‘gotcha’ that sometimes catches people out is to make sure the email address set in sellerdeck is the master email address for the hosting as this is used as the ‘from’ email address and sometimes the email servers don’t like to send emails where the ‘from’ address isn’t one they recognise.

        Mike

ps. All sellerdeck email are sent from the email server on your web host. Even the ones generated on the desktop are transferred up to the server and sent from there via the perl scripts.

This is what your error log is saying:

Program = MailScri, Program version = 32940 , HTTP Server = Apache , Return code = 999 , Date and Time = 2019/11/16 17:52, Internal Errors = Error returned from SMTP server (4: through this server without authentication.

          Looks as if wants authentication.

            Mike

You have it nailed, you've helped me before and you're bloody good :-), thank you for that

Forgive me, but I'm wondering if you are with UK Fast? There is one helpful guy on here that is like me on UK Fast and no-doubt pays a fortune for it....

How the hell you found out about what you just posted is perhaps something I'm not sure if I want to know ......but you are BANG ON Correct

But for those that might have similar issues I would like to name a few things to make it easier to search on this forum and I quote:

"it sounds as if the outgoing smtp server on your host doesn’t like ‘relaying’ as in this case they’re typically happy to send to an ‘on domain’ email address but not to an external email address. It’s odd if V14 works though."
REPLY: You have this correct as I'll explain at the end. Yep, SD14 works and no issues, which is why it proved a nightmare not knowing who to turn to for help

I guess the starting point is what happens when you run a network test?
REPLY: NT is fine....I still never receive the SD Email that all is ok, I haven't since SD 12 but the test is always positive

Following on from that I’d try placing an order using your ‘on domain’ email address as the customer email to see if sellerdeck is actually sending the email or not.
REPLY: It spat feathers and threw up Error returned from SMTP server (4: through this server without authentication.

REPLY: That is a superb 10/10 comment without fail, but mine are set exactly the same although I know exactly what you mean

All sellerdeck email are sent from the email server on your web host. Even the ones generated on the desktop are transferred up to the server and sent from there via the perl scripts.
REPLY: That certainly explains a few things and I now understand. I had a feeling they were but still doesn't explain why SD14 is fine, hence me losing the will or losing the plot with it all

            RESULT:
The reason for the long reply is because I hope this might help others out. I've been an SD user since SD7 and I only launched SD16.03 last week, however, with my head bowed down - it was actually a server issue, C Panel issue to be exact :-(
I use C Panel on my UK Fast server. For some reason, some settings had changed due to another upgrade of CPanel. This put SMTP RESTRICTIONS to 'Enabled' which if disabled, cures all the issues I've had above. Then just go in to TWEAK SETTINGS and one by one, test each change made

            Embarrassed by this but happy

Cheers Mike, well done to you for taking the time to do a few tests for me. Respect to you
