[sd.hide] comment

I've just come across a HTML comment in the format of

<!--[sd.hide] [sd.hide]-->

. Does this format of comment have any special meaning?

Seems to mark areas of code that get omitted when the pages are being output via the Perl scripts (Cart, Checkout, Search, etc).

Seems to give a 404 for actinic.css in cart/checkout and styleless pages on some sites with custom designs
