File Permissions

Hi,

Our shared host had a problem today but when it came back online we found we had permission issues.
I think the FOLDERS should have the following permissions:
acatalog folder - 777 (rwxr-xr-x)
cgi-bin - 755 (rwxr-xr-x)

I changed the folder permission as above

But what about the files in the folders, do these all need to be 777 and 755 respectively? Currently they are 644 in acatalog and 755 in cgi-bin

If I run 'Retrieve Orders' I get the following error message, so obviously there is still a permissions problem.

The web script was unable to delete the specified file from the web site because
the file's permissions are locked.

Recommendation:
Retry or...
Abort and manually delete the file
Do not try Ignore. If you try to ignore this message
you may end up with duplicate orders (if you
are downloading orders) or further upload
errors.
Resolution:
If retry fails, manually delete the file from the web site.

Ours on a 1and1 server are:

acatalog 755
cgi-bin 775

You don't need to worry about the permissions of the individual files in those folders I don't think.

I made sure the folders were set to 777 for acatalog and 755 for the cgi-bin.

When I tried to 'publish to web' or 'refresh website' I had errors reporting that various files could not be deleted.

Finally I did a 'Website Purge & Refresh' and then a refresh website and slowly errors lessened until everything worked.

Bit trial and error, but it worked in the end.

I assume from all this that Sellerdeck sets the correct permissions for each file.

You really should have the permissions at 755 on both directories - you are leaving yourself wide open to abuse from hackers, malware etc leaving it at 777
